The service sector can be classified broadly into two categories:
Economic Services (A)
It consists of the following things, for example;
I Transport, Storage, and Communication: There are many different methods of transportation, including road, rail, water, and air transportation. After the United States, Russia, and Canada, India has the best railway system in the world and is first in Asia. Both the public and private sectors offer storage services. Government agencies that offer storage facilities include Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), Food Corporation of India (FCI), and others.
There are numerous cold storage facilities, most of them are offered by private authorities. An economy's most important service is communication. This comprises information and broadcasting, telecommunication, postal and telegraph services, and more. In India, the postal service offers a number of new initiatives, including speed.
(ii) Trade, Hotels, and Tourism: Domestic and international trades are included in trade service. Trade between the various states and cities inside the country is referred to as domestic trade.
Contrarily, international trade refers to transactions involving various nations. Both imports and exports are included. Numerous public sector organizations, like the State Trading Corporation (STC), the Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation (MMTC), and the Special Economic Zones (SEZ), among others, provide adequate support to boost India's overseas commerce.
Today, a number of private sector organizations are also contributing to the expansion of global trade. Private entrepreneurs dominate the hotel industry. However, increasing the level of tourism service in India is a joint responsibility of both public and private organizations.
(iii) Banking and Insurance Services: The main indication of economic growth is the development of banking services. India has a widespread banking infrastructure. The banking sector is essential to the growth of other service industries.
Apart from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which serves as the country's central bank, all commercial banks in India, including those in the public and private sectors, are actively contributing to the growth of the nation.
Private banks include HDFC, HSBC, AXIS Bank, and public sector banks include SBI, PNB, FBI, and UCA Bank. Even so, there are a number of non-banking financial institutions, including TABARD, ICICI, IDB, and others. Additionally, there are other private insurance companies like Tata AIG and Beria, as well as public insurance companies like LIC and GI.
(B) Social Services: These include things like;
I Education: The educational system has grown significantly since Independence.
The number of general education facilities has increased significantly. The number of elementary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools has dramatically increased. The schools have a respectable enrollment of pupils. Additionally, the number of universities, colleges, and designated universities has greatly increased.
Additionally, the number of institutions offering technical and professional education is rising quickly. In India, there is a significant expansion of business schools, engineering colleges, medical colleges, and colleges of agriculture, among others. All of them have raised the bar for India's educational system.
(ii) The health industry is a significant one in India. The health service includes the number of hospitals, dispensaries, primary care clinics, community health services, doctors per 1,000 people, nurses, hospital beds, and dispensaries. In India, the public and private sectors are collaborating to improve health care in both urban and rural areas. In India, medical facilities have increased since Independence.
(iii) Administration: Administrative services have grown rapidly in India as well.
The BDO (Block Development Office), DM (District Magistrate), IAS (Indian Administrative Service), and IPS offices were established after Independence.(ii) The health industry is a significant one in India. The IPS (Indian Police Service), IFS (Indian Forest Service), and judicial courts have grown to ensure the efficient operation of India's civil agencies.
Consumer actions in the service
We all purchase various services for a variety of reasons. While one individual might choose a restaurant for the delicious food, the other might choose an elite restaurant for status. One person might enjoy reading "The Times of India" first thing in the morning, while another person would enjoy doing it when they get home from work.
There are some ladies who never visit beauty salons, while there are others who go frequently. Similar to this, several examples demonstrate how people behave differently when selecting and utilizing various things.
PLAYERS IN THE SERVICE SECTOR: There are six different roles that are played when a specific service is purchased.

If, The initiator is the individual who proposes to purchase a specific service because they have a specific need.
ii) Influencer: The individual or group that the decision-maker consults or receives advice from. These could be primary or secondary reference groups. Even secondary reference groups like word-of-mouth or the media have the power to sway the decision-maker.
iii) Gatekeepers: A person, group, or piece of marketing content that filters the selection of services that are included in the decision-making set.
