Bio-diesel
Bio-diesel is one of the most common Bio-fuels in Europe. It is mainly produced in oil or oil using the trans-esterification process. It is a liquid with the same structure as that of the mineral diesel. The chemical name for bio-diesel is the fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).
The oil is mixed with methanol or ethanol with sodium hydroxide, which initiates chemical reactions to produce glycerol and bio-diesel (FAME). The process produces 1 part glycerol per 10 parts bio-diesel.

Most car manufacturers are still limited to using 15% bio-diesel composed of mineral diesel. In some European countries, 5% bio-diesel mixture is widely used and is also available at gas stations.
Bio-ethanol
Ethanol is one of the most common Bio-fuels in the world. Alcohol is also known to produce fermented sugar, which is derived from corn, wheat, sugarcane, and beetroot. Various methods of ethanol production are sugar fermentation, enzymatic digestion, distillation and drying.
Ethanol use is most evident in petrol engines when replacing gasoline. Almost all petrol engines in the world can run on a 15% combination of bio-ethanol and gasoline.
