The process of spinning involves twisting fibers to create yarn. The intended fiber is extracted, twisted, and wound onto a bobbin. In addition to cotton, the most popular Fiber, other popular fibers spun into yarn include viscose (the most prevalent kind of rayon), wool, and synthetic polyester. Starting in the 500s AD, the spinning wheel replaced the spindle whorl as the primary spinning equipment used throughout Asia and Europe. Spinning was originally done by hand. By making mechanical spinning significantly more efficient than manual spinning, the spinning jenny and spinning mule, developed in the late 1700s, helped cotton production become one of the most significant industries of the Industrial Revolution.
Process
The yarn that comes out of the drafting rollers travels through a thread guide, around that can freely revolve around a ring, and then onto a tube or bobbin that is carried onto a spindle, the axis of which passes through the center of the ring. The traveler is pulled around a ring by the spindle, which is driven (often at an angular velocity that is either constant or changes only slowly). If the drafting rollers were stationary, the spindle's rotation would cause one turn of a twist to be inserted into the loop of yarn between the rollers because the traveler's angular velocity would be equal to that of the spindle.
And the traveler, nip. However, the yarn continuously emerges from the drafting system's rollers when spinning. In these conditions, the angular velocity of the traveler is just slightly slower than that of the spindle, allowing the yarn to be wound onto the bobbin at the same rate that it emerges from the drafting rollers.
The number of twists in the loop of yarn between the roller nip and the traveler is now increased by one with each revolution of the traveler, but in equilibrium, this number stays the same because the twisted yarn is moving through the at a constant velocity.
Various Fibers
A polymer is extruded through a spinneret into a medium, where it solidifies to create synthetic fibers. A coagulating medium is used in wet spinning (rayon). A solvent that contains the polymer in dry spinning (acetate and acetate) evaporates in the heated exit chamber. In melt spinning, the extruded polymer (such as nylon and polyester) is cooled in gas or air before setting. These fibers will all be quite long—often measured in kilometers.
Natural fibers can be divided into three groups: those made from plants (cotton, flax, sisal), minerals (asbestos, gold, silver), or animals (sheep, goat, rabbit, silkworm). These vegetable fibers can be derived from the leaf (sisal), the stem (flax, hemp, and jute), or the seed (cotton).
Several actions must be taken in order to produce an even, clean staple. Except silk, all of these fibers are short, only a few centimeters long, and have a rough surface that makes it possible for them to link with other fibers of a similar length.
Artificial fibers can be batched and chopped or processed as long fibers to be processed like a natural fiber.
