Depression is a combination of mental and physical symptoms. Low mood levels or sadness is often the most important symptom. A common property of these symptoms is a decrease in the level of activity in certain parts of the brain.
Symptoms of depression
Depression can be caused by one or more of these symptoms:
- Low level of mood or sadness.
Lack of pleasure or interest in activities that were previously pleasant.
Bromidism
- Feeling guilty about something without a strong reason to think so.
- Inferiority complex
- Irritated thoughts
Slowing down the thought process.
-Lack of interpretation of sensory stimuli.
- Slowing down of digestive or other internal physiological processes and symptoms caused by its slowing down, for example bloating, constipation or difficulty urinating.
- Slow physical reactions.
Depression can be a mild illness that causes some irritation in daily life but it is very severe and a person is unable to fully function and participate in social life. Depression of some severity also increases the risk of suicide.
Depression can affect people of all ages. Lack of interest in schoolwork, avoiding from social life and difficult moods are symptoms of depression in young lads and girls.
Physical symptoms
Depression reduces the size of neurotransmitters in parts of the central nervous system, mainly serotonin, but to some extent noradrenaline, acetylcholine, dopamine or gamma-amino-butyric acid or nerve cells. Respond properly by stimulus from neurotransmitters. A neurotransmitter is a signaling substance that transmits a nerve signal through junctions between two nerve cells.
Serotonin and noradrenaline cause nerve cells to send stimuli along with other nerve cells, thereby increasing activity in the brain. Lack of these substances makes some parts of the brain lethargic and again causes depressive symptoms.
The role of Gamma amino butyric acid is the opposite, i.e., it slows down certain nerve impulses, mainly causing anxiety and panic responses. Gamma amino butyric acid deficiency can lead to high anxiety and an easy panic reaction. However, the absence of this transmitter can also cause depression symptoms. This is because too much activity in some brain processes slows down other processes.
There are many causes of depression and subtypes with different physiological mechanisms.
Types:
Depression is divided into subtypes according to the symptoms that are often witnessed.
1. Mono-polar depression and dysthymic disorder
Unipolar depression can lead to pure depressive symptoms. Mild cases of mono-polar disorder that do not affect an individual's ability to work and participate in social activities are often referred to as dysthymic disorder.
2. Bipolar disorder
This condition is characterized by periods of depression - the depressive phase, alternating with periods of high levels of mood with increased mental and physical exertion - the manic phase. In a state of mania, the victim may not even sleep properly and may have difficulty concentrating. The milder form of the disease is called cyclothymic disorder.
3. Manic disorder
This condition is characterized by abnormally increased mood, unrealistic optimism, lack of sleep and hyperactive behavior. Many psychiatrists believe that this disorder is similar to bipolar disorder, where the depressed face has not yet occurred.
4. Depression is mostly characterized by physical symptoms
Sometimes the physical symptoms of depression are singular or predominant, for example: digestive problems, constipation, difficulty urinating or slow physical reactions.
Due to depression
Two or more factors work together to produce depression. Depression can be an independent disease or part of another illness. Depression is also divided into different subtypes depending on the cause.
1. Reactive depression
The disease occurs only as a result of stress, physical struggle or mental stress or prolonged sleep without proper rest. Stress weakens the nervous system or reduces the organism from the nutrients needed for the nervous system to function properly.
2. Inherited depression
This condition is often referred to as endogenous depression, when there are no periods of stress, tension, or lack of rest that explain the condition. Inheritance is considered a part of the cause.
3. Physical illness depression
Depression or depressive symptoms can be a symptom of physical illness. This is probably the most common cause of depression. There are three major types of depression:
Diseases often associated with depression: heart disease, Parkinson's disease, hypertension.
Induces mononucleosis or depression that persists after the flu infection is gone.
Lack of thyroid hormone slows down the metabolism throughout the body, including hypothyroidism and the production of neurotransmitters in the brain. Depression is therefore an important feature of hypothyroidism.
4.unbalanced lifestyle
A moderately unhealthy lifestyle with too little exercise, too many stimulants like alcohol, coffee or tea, too few essential nutrients and too much sugar and can lead to depressive symptoms, as well as physical problems.
5. Post pregnancy depression
Women often suffer from depression after pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnancy and childbirth can be physically and mentally exhausting and deplete the body of nutrients. It gradually causes depressive symptoms.

6 Depression due to season creep
Depression can occur at cold and dark times of the year and dissipates at warm and mild times. Light stimulates brain activity and lack of light is the triggering factor
