Chinese Rocket Long March 5B: Broken parts of a newly launched large Chinese rocket are expected to return to Earth this weekend in an uncontrolled re-entry into the atmosphere.
The Chinese government has said that they are engaged in continuous monitoring in this regard. The government has also said in its report that there is no possibility of any harm to the life living on the ground.
Exploding rocket
The Long March 5B rocket blasted off into space on July 24. Long March 5B carried supplies to the Chinese space station. It is noteworthy that this is China's most powerful rocket. 2020 saw the first launch of Long Mark 5B.
It was the third rocket that exploded now. It is 100 feet long and weighs 2200 kg. A rocket in a low-Earth orbit is expected to come down to Earth soon due to Earth's gravity.
Rocket debris returning to Earth
The Chinese Space Research Center said that it was not possible to say exactly where it would fall. However, analysts have said that in the coming days, it will be possible to predict where it is likely to fall or confirm the area.
Re-entry is predicted to occur at 0024 GMT on Sunday (July 31), or minus 16 hours, according to a statement released by the Aerospace Corporation, a government-funded nonprofit research center near Los Angeles.
Is it harmful to humans?
As 75 percent of Earth's surface where debris falls is water, desert or forest, the risk to people and property on Earth is minimal, astronaut Ted Muelhaupt told reporters.
However, there is also a possibility that fragments of the rocket may fall in a populated area. In May 2020, fragments of another Chinese Long March 5B landed in Ivory Coast, damaging several buildings in the West African country. However, there were no casualties.
To avoid such mishaps, the US and other spacefaring nations spend extra to design their rockets.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said there was little chance the debris would harm aviation or people or property on the ground, and most parts of the rocket would be destroyed when it re-entered Earth.
