Society is being increasingly separated from each other because of erroneous sense of connection. Social media is making society less connected. Connecting society more with the digital world, making them unaware of the surrounding moments. Social media is creating a false sense of connection because people do not give time to their family and friends and try to connect with people without knowing them who they are and what background they have. Families sitting physically together at the dinner table, but with their mind and eyes on either device. This has negative impact on relationships and family bonding. They are addicted to their phone, which is affecting their general attitude and behavior, leading to development of psychological disorders and antisocial behavior due to prolonged use of technology. Besides these health issues also develop like sleep deprivation and desolation. There are many risks associated with use of social media. One of these is people are too open about their personal lives, especially in public. They can write anything without any restrictions. Cyberbullying is the highest risk of using social media. It could involve sending messages of threatening nature. People are harassed by others. It causes deep mental disturbance, depression and even people commit suicide because they can handle such level of mental torture. People misuse the personal information of others with fake accounts. These fake accounts are used to defame the character and reputation of the individual and his or her friends and family. Another bad impact of social media is sharing of inappropriate content. Viewing inappropriate content very frequently can change an individual’s thought process, which can lead to destruction of morals and values of a good society. Members of a society being affected morally. Social media spreads the false and incorrect information. People tend to believe everything they see on social networking sites and internet. This leads to miscommunication and confusion in individuals. People stop reading books and depend on shortcuts for information without any evidence of authentication. Social media is harming our society. Nowadays, people do not enjoy their lives. Everyone is just busy in taking pictures and no one is interested in living the moment. Social media has a very bad influence on kids. Children spend most of their time on these social sites instead of focusing on their studies. Because of availability of every kind of information on social media, Children become more mature mentally for their age and often know more than their parents, which is a very dangerous thing. On social media, it seems like everyone has a perfect life and people just show off everything. Reality is different from what people see on social media. This thing makes many people insecure, and they have complexes that everyone has a better life than them. In reality, every one has a life which has ups and downs and no one has perfect life. As users, we need to be careful and aware about what we do over the internet and how we use social media for our benefit and entertainment. Because it has both advantages and disadvantages. We just need to be aware so that they do not fall prey to the disadvantages of it.
