The main center of the Ukraine war is now the eastern part of the country. Russian forces are now concentrating there. If Mariupol falls to Russian forces, more troops will be able to move northwards. They can go west of Donetsk.
How are the Ukrainians preparing?
Brigadier General Ben Barry (retd) of the International Institute for Strategic Studies thinks that Ukraine has been preparing its defense forces for years. That is why the task of removing them from there will not be so easy for the Russian forces.
"Unlike in World War I, Ukrainians don't just have to dig trenches," he said. "We have to build security in the cities and villages that they want to protect."
Many of the Ukrainian troops stationed in the east are much more experienced. Because, they have been dealing with the armed Russians since 2014. The number of these army members may be further increased. With the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kiev, there is no longer any need to deploy troops. Brigadier Barry thinks Russia could dismantle Ukraine's air defenses before landing. The country can use huge ammunition for this. Failure to carry out heavy shelling at the outset could result in heavy Russian casualties and the risk of defeat.Russia has a variety of sophisticated weapons. In particular, automatic cannons can play a significant role in this regard. The shells fired from this automatic cannon first go upwards, then come down to the ground. It is not thrown directly at the target. It is much safer than conventional guns. It can be hit quickly.Russia has a multi-role GRAD rocket launcher to strike Ukrainian forces from a distance. Moscow can use this grad much more. Multipurpose Grad system has 40 rockets. They can be fired within 20 seconds. In the meantime, the use of GRAD in some parts of Ukraine has caused a great deal of damage to civilians. Kharkiv, Mariupol and some other cities have been reduced to rubble.
