Districts of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli were battered by intense rain.
The southern districts of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, which have been battered by nonstop rain since Sunday afternoon, are now the ones to suffer the most after Chennai.
Thoothukudi is reportedly the most severely affected, with some locations receiving as much precipitation in a single day as the usual annual rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department reports that from Sunday, June 6 to Monday, June 6, Kayalpattinam, which is located nine kilometers from Tiruchendur, received 932 mm of rain, while Tiruchendur received 679 mm. Kayalpattinam was the hardest impacted.
Train cancellations:
The Tirunelveli station is entirely inundated, hence the Southern Railway has notified that trains to and from Tirunelveli would not be operating. There have been few train diverts from the original plan to travel through Tirunelveli junction. With water up to the track level, the rail line that once connected Tirunelveli and Tiruchndur has been severed.
Since Sunday night, cargo activities at the VO Chidambaranar Port (previously Tuticorin Port) have been completely suspended.

The Tirunelveli Junction Bus Stand was surrounded by entirely submerged ground floors of business buildings, hotels, and lodges, indicating the extent of the infrastructure destruction.
The main problem is the stagnation of water, which has swamped entire towns with 3–4 feet of water, and more than 7 feet of water in the local bus station. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin gave the order to restrict lake and canal flows cautiously as a result of the circumstances.
