How Quiet People in Meetings Are Incredible

As a business man during the day, and a businessman at night, I have attended my meetings for the past ten years or so.

 Meetings can be a daunting task. Before you know it, the meeting may be out of control. Leaders with pinstripe suits or gray hair quickly during the day may lose structure. They change their ego with words. In other words, they talk a lot. As the meeting wears the duel continues. Leaders throw words around. Those who want the next promotion do the same.

 Looking smart, key. You use spreadsheets and put phrases in the mouth of a customer who never said it to make sure you look right or are more connected to the customer.

  Meeting is a waste of time. No solution was reached.

But, not all is bad. Meetings taught me one important lesson: look at people who are quiet.

There are these secret people who come to the meetings. They say nothing. You can attend ten meetings in a row and never hear them speak. Their words are a privilege reserved for the royal family. You find yourself dying knowing what they are going to say. They acted like a fly on a wall. In every meeting, they're smart, to say the least.

They look at angry beasts, instead of being a beast.

I used to be very vocal in the meetings. These quiet people changed my mind. Now I try to stay calm in most meetings and say nothing. I have yet to learn this skill but it has taught me a lot.

The loudest person in the room is not the loudest, or really the brightest spark.

Career degrees make people do stupid things. One of those mistakes is talking too much. You can have a topic today and tomorrow we will go.

What destroys a business is disobedient people. They think they know the market but really don't know anything at all.

The brightest light in the room means nothing. They are there taking notes and paying attention to what is happening. They are watching a duel of egos and see no room for disturbance.

When the meeting is over they go back to their table and help complete the to-do list. They are the maker, not the speaker.

Someone who talks too much and too little in the meeting is not very smart. They drown the solutions of people who do real work.

It is good to keep quiet. It does not make you lose; it makes you wise.

Light sparks know when to shut them down.

There are definitely times when you will be asked to talk about a topic. You can't say no, or sign.

The idea is to cover as few words as possible and to make the point. Then, once you have said what you need to say in the shortest possible time, you know when to close.

Knowing when to speak is an art.

If you can learn to shut your mouth at the right time, you may hear speechless people. You can also hear what can be said.

Light sparks know when to listen, and learn.

Close your mouth to listen.

Obedience is a turning point in your life.

Why? When you listen you read. While at work and out of my depths caring for the $ 1 billion Silicon Valley Tech company, I listened to my way of doing things. By sitting in meeting after meeting and not saying anything, I learned what the customer did and how my employer's business was doing. None of those meetings ever found out that I did not know.

When you listen, people tend to assume that you know what you are doing. And guess what? You will know what you are doing when you listen.

I remember hearing about a boy (who forgot his name) who was listening to the meetings. Through the art of listening, you have risen to join meetings with two Google founders.

All he did was sit there with his mouth closed, and then ask to take notes of the meeting. No one ever asked him. What he learned at those meetings changed his life completely. He was very successful in his work because he was beyond knowledge, thanks to the meetings he attended.

If you listen, you will learn things that they will never teach you at a prestigious university. You can argue that the education this man received from the two Google founders was better than his university degree - all in obedience.

Praise peace, not hot air and noise.

My goal in meetings now is to be the smallest person in the room. There is a lot of hot air and noise in meetings that do not benefit. Your desire to be heard at meetings may interfere with your reading.

Your ego makes you talk a lot. If you learn to simplify and dictate your value, you will end up saying less in meetings.

The person who makes the most noise in the room is dumb because he does not know, or has a command to shut his mouth. It hurts. Do not make your life a disaster by talking too much in the meetings.

Silent people are changing the world because they hear things that others do not see.

Make friends with people who are quiet at meetings.
