I had a great time teaching an intermediate class of students, many of whom were beginners and curious about how to develop their talents. (One guy used to play in a band with John Lennon - how cool is that?)
I had a great time teaching an intermediate class of 30 eager students who were beginners curious to develop their intuitive gifts. (One classmate once played in a band with John Lennon—now how cool is that?) While every class is different, I can always count on hearing some version of the question, "How can we protect ourselves from the dark forces?"
Once I ask, I have to tread carefully because I don't want to scare anyone from opening up and experiencing the gifts of spirit communication. But at the same time, I believe there is negative energy out there. I encountered ghosts that some might call "dark" - but they weren't Stephen King creatures created by Hollywood special effects technicians to scare us in the movies.
No, the dark spirits I met were lost, lonely, confused and tormented souls who for one reason or another were afraid to step into the light. Most of them believe that God will not let them into "heaven" because of the mistakes they have made in life. Other spirits do not know that they are dead or do not want to accept the fact that they have left the earth plane. And a few are full of rage and have no way to get rid of that negative energy. So they hang around like poltergeists and play tricks and occasionally stick to an Ouija board and try to lead people astray. (This is why I avoid Ouija boards.)
These spirits must be treated with love and compassion. I know several rescue mediums who feel that leading lost souls to the light is a noble calling. These strong-willed mediums are fearless and have powerful spirit guides. And they don't take their jobs lightly.
There are two keywords here: fear and power. So whenever someone asks me how to protect myself from "the darkness", I think of these two words. Because fear feeds negative energy. And power—believing in the power of your self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-love—will defeat anything.
Many people are told to visualize a pure white light that acts as a shield to protect themselves in certain situations. White light is often seen as a symbol of divinity, and invoking the white light means asking God or the energy of love to be with you. I also believe that the white light symbolizes the power of our higher self. And what constitutes our higher self? The awareness that we are strong, wise beings with a deep sense of self-belief and determination to express the love of the universe that flows in and through us.
So: How can you protect yourself from the darkness? By turning on the light - your light. By strengthening the light within you and understanding that you can shine as bright as the sun. Meditate on this and repeat this mantra often: “I am in control of my life. I control my light.”
Safeguarding questions don't just come from students; my clients ask this too. Their inquiries encouraged me to create my guided meditation CD called Strengthen The Light Within. It is a tool that I hope will help people master their personal power while encouraging and supporting their psychic development.
Believe in yourself. You have power and it is unlimited!
