What Is the Film About?
In HBO Max’s Peacemaker, Dr. David Ghantt (John Cena) is a former US Navy SEAL who lives with a secret that has haunted him since his years in combat: he had an affair with a married female doctor (Kelly Macdonald). Eight years later, as their daughter Grace grows up, David meets Grace’s best friend Priyanka (Priyanka Chopra), who knows nothing about her father’s past. After saving each other from mortal danger on several occasions, David and Priyanka realise they are meant to be together. But just when they think things are looking up for them both professionally and personally, they find themselves drawn into a criminal conspiracy that places everyone they love in danger of being lost forever... and even possibly killed! And if David can’t stop it, it will lead to nuclear war!
What Critics Have to Say
As a viewer of both "Quantico" and its spinoff series, I'm surprised to say that "Peacemaker" was not better. In fact, it is way worse than "Quantico," which I stopped watching after Season 2 but still have hope for as it has only aired two seasons. Does The Film Live Up To All Of The Promises?
It’s telling that Peacemaker feels more like a bookend to Priyanka Chopra’s relationship with Nick Jonas than it does an origin storey for its title character. Instead of a superhero storey about how one man, who also happens to be Indian-American, created a super suit that can heal his wounds and fly him into danger at breakneck speed, we get a film about an engaged couple dealing with some fairly standard relationship issues.Just add some violence, superpowers, and reckless supervillains. While I won’t spoil what happens in Peacemaker, it’s clear that being married is enough of a conflict for our protagonists — which raises questions about just why director/co-writer Patrick Hughes decided on an origins storey in the first place.
How Many People Have Seen It?
Peacemaker has been watched by an estimated 3.2 million people over HBO Max. That was enough to make it No. 1 on opening day, but its viewership fell off sharply afterward, finishing with only about 1 million viewers for Sunday’s episode. Still, that puts Peacemaker solidly ahead of other streaming series such as Netflix’s The Good Cop — which topped out at 2.1 million viewers — and Amazon’s Homecoming: A TV Series, which started with a paltry 740,000 initial viewers before rising to 1.5 million across all three seasons.
What Is Next For This Couple?
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are expecting their first child together. Of course, that isn't exactly new news. News broke in October 2018 that Priyanka was pregnant with a baby girl due in late April or early May. The couple reportedly announced they were expecting back in August, but didn't confirm it to the press until September, when they stepped out at Vanity Fair's annual Hollywood issue party.
