How Oscars 2022: Chris Rock 'can't Imagine Forgiving' Will Smith Over Altercation At Ceremony

The Oscars 2022 made headlines for a number of noteworthy moments that film fans all over the world will remember for years to come. One such incident occurred when Chris Rock and Will Smith got into a disagreement about the latter's wife's baldness. The King Richard actor was offended by the joke and walked over to Chris Rock and slapped him. A source close to the comedian recently spoke out about the event, saying that he 'can't imagine forgiving' Smith.

Chris Rock says he "can't see forgiving" anyone. Will Smith is a well-known actor. Following the global occurrence on March 27, the Oscars slap became a much contested topic. Although Will Smith apologised to the comedian in a statement, a source close to him told Hollywood Life that he 'can't imagine forgiving' the actor. They also stated that Chris Rock did not wish for the incident to characterise him for the rest of his career. The comedian has not yet addressed the subject on social media, and a source said he is waiting for the "dust to settle" before speaking about it. He is said to be 'emotional' over the incident, which occurred on a global scale. According to the source

"He can’t see forgiving Will, being friends with him. It's just a strange thing to fully encircle. Chris Rock does not want the Will Smith slap to define him or his career in the future. He's not sure when he'll talk about it; he knows he'll have to at some point, but for now, he's focused on his tour and waiting for the dust to settle. Dealing with and wrapping his brain around it is still raw, emotional, and puzzling."

Will Smith expresses regret.

Will Smith wrote a statement on Instagram on March 29 in which he addressed his 'unacceptable and reprehensible' actions at the Oscars 2022. He apologised to Chris Rock, admitting that he was "out of line," and that his behaviour was "not typical" of the guy he aspires to be. He also expressed regret to the Academy, from which he has now resigned. The actor's statement was as follows: "Violence in any form is poisonous and destructive, and my behaviour at last night's Academy Awards was wrong and inexcusable. Jokes about my medical condition are part of the work, but one about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to handle, and I reacted emotionally."

Chris, I'd like to express my sincere regret to you. I was completely out of line and incorrect. I'm embarrassed, and my actions do not reflect the kind of man I want to be. In a world of love and kindness, violence has no place. I'd also like to apologise to the Academy, the producers of the show, all of the attendees, and everyone watching across the world. I'd like to extend my condolences to the families of Williams and King Richard. I apologise if my actions have spoiled what has otherwise been a fantastic journey for all of us.
"I'm still a work in progress."
