How one can make a Floating Garden

On the freshwater lake, the floating gardens were constructed by laying rafts on the water's surface that were filled with mud and dirt dug up from the ground, creating a planting area. The pre-Hispanic people preferred to cultivate, maintaining their habitat while also producing staple crops. Mexicans have continued to practise this culture since the time of the Aztecs.

To showcase the beauty of Chinampas, Xochimilco has recently developed into a popular tourist destination. In Xochimilco, people used to ride on trajineras, a boat that was lavishly decked with flowers and brilliant colors. For those who travel to Xochimilco to celebrate, weekends are fairly fair. In Xochimilco, many people attend important events, including banquets, weddings, and birthday parties. With its lush landscaping and distribution of approximately fifty restaurants, Xochimilco's chinampas have grown to be of considerable importance to all city residents.

Xochimilco is a network of interconnecting canals that was constructed in Mexico City during the Aztec era by pre-Hispanic people. Its principal features are chinampas and floating gardens (Tenochtitlan). Using a customary farming method, the local agriculturalists in the early Aztec period built small, artificial islands filled with attractive plants, including daisies, cacti, lilies, corn, beans, squash, tomatoes, and chillies.

Bangladesh is made up of wetlands, which means that a significant portion of the country is submerged for large portions of the year. This waterlogging presents a problem because it considerably reduces the possibility of cultivating crops the conventional way.

Water hyacinths are one example of a plant that thrives in Bangladesh's rivers and wetlands and can rise and fall with the water like rafts. Even when the rivers are at their highest, food may still be grown using these types of plants. As a result, floating gardens are available to everyone, affordable, dependable, and completely in harmony with nature. In fact, Bangladesh's floating gardens have been recognised as a "Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System" by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization.

The gardens are made by layering and weaving the plants, which are typically three feet deep, to produce variations of raised-bed gardens, enabling them to function as a growing base as they float. These rafts are then filled with vegetables, and as the plant roots progressively disintegrate, they release nutrients that feed the plants.

Growing well-liked crops on floating gardens is a terrific idea. Okra, gourd, spinach, and aubergine are examples of traditional foods for communities in Bangladesh. Turmeric and ginger are two examples of spices that can be farmed. A farmer can also plant saplings if they want to increase the size of their floating garden.

The farmer will typically receive 16 kg of vegetables back in 3 to 4 months. Low operating costs make it perfect for small-scale businesses.

Experts believe floating gardens might be a fantastic farming solution for people all around the world due to their ecological and accessible design, relatively low operational costs, and precedent-setting excitement. Mexico, India, Cambodia, and Myanmar are already home to floating gardens. The types of vegetables that can be grown and the types of fish that can be caught vary from location to location, but the fundamental model and philosophy are the same.

For farming communities all over the world, climate change poses a serious concern. However, floating gardens offer a solution for continuing to produce food, provide resources, and promote a healthy lifestyle. Floating gardens are helping farming communities become more stable in terms of incoming and outgoing resources.
