The ROG Phone 6 and Pro versions of Asus' newest high-end gaming phones were unveiled alongside a selection of peripherals meant to improve user experience, such as a cooling peripheral with tactile control buttons.
The ROG series of devices have features often found on higher-end smartphones, but they also have a number of gaming-specific upgrades intended to appeal to this market.
Both devices have a 6000mAh battery, a 6.78-inch Samsung display with a fast refresh rate, a triple camera system on the back with the main camera being 50MP, and an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU. The front camera is a 12MP model as well.
The Pro version comes with a smaller, less useful rear display and various technical enhancements, as well as more RAM as standard.
Keeping your cool In addition to the smartphones, Asus also unveiled a number of improved accessories, such as the AeroActive Cooler 6.
The add-on, which is attached to the device's back, gives the phone better temperature control as well as a set of buttons that can be used as controllers for video games.
Asus emphasized the addition of the accessory to the ROG Phone 6 series' sophisticated cooling system. It states that the peripheral may lower the device's back temperature by 25 degrees C while controlling it to prevent it from being too cold.
Gaming controllers and headphones are additional equipment that can be purchased separately from the devices.
Prices for the 512 GB Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro start at €1,299.
The base 256 GB storage capacity for the regular edition costs €999. Orders are already being taken in some areas, however Asus indicated it would be available worldwide “soon”.
The ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro were introduced on Tuesday by Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus as part of the company's ROG brand of gaming smartphones. The smartphones have upgraded design with IPX4 rating, an industry-leading 165Hz AMOLED screen, up to 18 GB RAM, 512 GB on-board storage, and two novel air trigger controls. These features are all powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system-on-chip. The specifications for the Asus ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro are as follows:
The 6.78-inch AMOLED screen on the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro has a 165 refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. The screen has a touch latency of 23ms and is HDR10+ certified. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, along with up to 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage, powers both devices. The 6,000 mAh large capacity batteries in the cellphones are powered by a 65W cable rapid charger.
However, a 30W wired charger for each phone is included in the box.
The two symmetrical 5-magnet 12x16 super linear speakers on the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro have been Dirac-tuned, and they are driven by Cirrus Logic CS35L45 mono amplifiers. The phones contain a side-mounted USB-C port for charging in landscape orientation, just as their predecessors.
Along with AirTrigger 6, the phones include updated versions of the Armoury Crate and Game Genie platforms. Users can alter the performance, touch, display, and network-related parameters for individual games using Armoury Crate.
