When someone joins my training program, one of the first things I ask them to do is clearly describe what their body will look like if I help them reach the weight of their goal. I urge them to do this in writing - not by phone, and that's why…
Concentrated negative thoughts cause us to have difficulty in any weight loss or health improvement program - in fact, our past failures can almost be traced back to negative thoughts that we didn't even know we had.
Most of our negative thoughts come when we write things on paper (or on a computer).
I challenge you to write ten short descriptions of what your body will look like in 30 days if you are trained by someone like me - someone who knows exactly how to change a person's body no matter what stage of the game you are currently in.
Go ahead, take a moment and write down what your face would look like, what your arms would look like, what your legs and hips would look like - if your skin would look different if your muscles were tight if you could lean - details everything, and come back straight.
Did you do it?
Make your list now before you read more - I want you to go with more information about yourself when you have finished reading this article.
OK, now that you have your list, let me show you something you can use to judge if you have been causing yourself to fail in your weight loss efforts and keep it off.
Here are some examples of statements my best friend had before she and I started working together - words that held her to success:
Shaped facial features, no double chin, no puffy cheeks or cheeks, and bags under the eyes.
Apart from the improved face, I have no complaints about my face, hair, eyes, nose, or ears.
Neck-no double chin or "wattle."
Chest-no gynecomastia (women's breasts), instead of muscles. Look, ma, I see my muscular and pectoral muscles instead of a soft flab mattress.
Solid and sinewy walls instead of soft sticks. We are identifying veins and muscles instead of smooth fat.
Abdomen - are there hidden ones out there? They have not been seen in 50 years! It would be nice to have a tight waist that is not uncomfortably cut with tight underwear.
The legs are under a round shape, extensive and firm. Even though my calves have always been big and strong — my most beautiful body part, next to my brain.
Sag-less sag, plural form
Going back can have short hair; it would be nice to see a "V" shape instead of a reduced pyramid.
Do you see why it might have been a few problems in the past to achieve his goal?
But I'll let you in a bit of secret - this guy is in better shape now and enjoying life than ever before, and he's happy to talk every week on our training phones.
Here is a list from a woman who just finished one of my training programs - this list was written after our first session together - see how good all the statements are:
