Gaza has changed the political equation of Palestine. Furthermore, the repercussions of this devastating ongoing war could change the political equation of the entire Middle East. The next few years could refocus Palestine as the world's most serious political crisis.
Since the establishment of Israel with the help of Britain, the United States and other Western countries have been working to protect the country; Their priority is exclusively the Israelis. In the context of Israel's occupation and apartheid behavior in Palestine, many other political comments such as 'Israel's security', 'Israel's military capability', 'Israel's right to self-defense' are being uttered in the West.
The oppressor has 'rights' over the oppressed—this peculiar US-Western stance on the conflict is what enables Israel to maintain its military occupation of the Palestinian territories; That occupation has been going on for more than 56 years.
And this situation has made Israel strong enough to ignore the core of the 'conflict'. The ethnic cleansing in Palestine in 1948 and the long-standing denial of Palestinian refugees' right to return to their homeland are examples of this.
Every Palestinian-Arab proposal for peace has been rejected, even the 'peace process', i.e. the Oslo Accords, has created an opportunity for Tel Aviv to push Palestinians into places like Bantustans along with its military occupation, settlement expansion. Bantustans were areas during apartheid South Africa that were designated for blacks—humiliation and racial segregation.
Some Palestinians are lining up to receive the dividends of the US-Israeli peace deal. Whether by falling prey to American propaganda or collapsing in a lingering sense of defeat, they seek the pitiful scraps of false prestige, nominal titles, and limited power. The interesting thing is that these things are given by Israel itself and withdrawn by itself.
However, the Israeli war against Gaza has already changed much of this painful situation.
What Israel has consistently touted is its deadly war against Hamas, against 'terror', against Islamic fundamentalism. Those who are willing to look at events through Israeli eyes may believe their words.
But the bodies of thousands of Palestinian civilians—including thousands of children—are piling up in Gaza hospital morgues and, even more tragically, littering the streets. Against this backdrop, Israel's rhetoric began to change.
The bodies of Palestinian children killed with their entire families become a witness to Israel's brutality, the immoral support of the country's allies. These corpses also bear witness to international inhumane conditions—rewarding the killer and condemning the victim.
All statements of US President Joe Biden are biased. In one of them, he said the Palestinians were lying about the death toll. This is perhaps the most inhumane statement ever made by a US President.
Washington may not yet realize it, but the consequences of its unconditional support for Israel could prove disastrous in the future. This is especially true for a region plagued by wars, hegemony, 'sell salt with one eye, sell oil with the other' policy, communal divisions and constant conflict. This will have the greatest impact on Israel.
On October 26, Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour delivered a very emotional speech at the United Nations, unable to hold back tears as he spoke. Members of the international delegation to the UN General Assembly greeted him with a standing ovation, a reflection of growing support for Palestine. It is reflected not only in the United Nations, but in hundreds of cities and countless streets around the world.
