The best cheap laptops are typically those that offer a decent base-level specification (32 or 64GB storage on Chromebooks, or a 4GB/8GB RAM, i3 CPU, 128GB storage on Windows machines) for a lower price. Laptops can range from about $400 for cheap notebooks, which are fine for occasional day-to-day use, all the way to several thousand dollars even for high-end machines.
This price range even includes some larger laptops that are 15 inches in size, with a handful including screens that have 4K resolution. The average laptop prices are lower, but even display quality is only on the medium side, as opposed to the cases where you are willing to pay more. Some cheaper laptops provide better displays as an upgrade, but only high-end laptops usually ship with a higher-quality display as standard hardware.
This just means you will never get a true representation of average laptop prices, but it is probably best to take a look at what you should be spending for your laptop. However, when shopping for new desktops or laptops for your business, you can expect to see a few broad price points.
While certain features are endemic to specific price points--you will not find discrete graphics cards in laptops priced under $500, for instance--you can generally make several compromises to land the best deal. In that price bracket, you could be able to afford a machine with the latest-generation Core i7, 156GB storage, and 16GB RAM--a powerhouse small laptop in anyone's book. I would not suggest buying anything that you cannot afford, but the difference between a great laptop and a good laptop is only a couple of hundred dollars for most folks. That is an amount of money that cannot buy you everything, but it can buy you a laptop that is excellent in important areas.
