According to Pradeep John, also known by the name Pradeep, Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi reported 932 mm in a 24-hour period on December 17.
He wrote, "This is more than their whole year's worth of rain falling in one day." "This is the second highest rainfall after the Kakkachi (manjolai) 965 mm recorded in 1992 and the highest rainfall ever recorded in Tamil Nadu's plains in a 24-hour period."
He also wrote that on December 17, Palayamkottai in the Tirunelveli district recorded an incredible 300 mm until 8:30 p.m.
"This is the wettest day Palayamkottai has seen in 150 years, dating back to 1871."
A local in Vilathikulam's Muthiyapuram village in the Thoothukudi district claimed that they hadn't experienced rain like this in the previous 50 years.
