How Money Can Not Buy You Happiness

I'm sure there will be a lot of people who read this article and think I're crazy. Truth be told, I don’t care. In this article I will write about the most important things in life, health and happiness according to my humble opinion.

Many of my friends talk about money:

What car do you drive?

How much is your home worth?

How much do you earn

How much does your suite cost?

Where are you going on vacation this year?

I find them all very boring and I think they are very sad. It seems that they are in a competition for something and are mainly obsessed with money.

I will give you an example of such a friend, whose name is John. He says nothing more and is always looking for quick money. He was also on the lottery syndicate of about fifty members. Each member is paid ten pounds a week. Although his feet start to itch in the lottery draw, John enjoys meeting up on Saturday nights. A few minutes later he goes to the toilet, where he calls his girlfriend. He takes with him a piece of paper with his numbers and a small pen to the toilet. After his girlfriend tells him what numbers he drew, John checks his numbers for about twenty minutes and then checks again to see if he has a winning line.

Eventually he returns to the group (along with me) who are very curious to know how much he won / lost. Having won only a small amount so far it is believed that he will one day become a millionaire. Then he started talking about the lottery, asking what others would buy if they ever had the luck to win. At this point I was very bored and I wanted to stay home and watch football.

For me the two most important things in life are health and happiness. These two can not be bought with money. Years ago our dad’s health plummeted. His condition was very serious and he had to spend almost five months in the hospital. His illness shocked me so much that he was only fifty-seven years old. Although I was doing my part to think positively and stay positive, I was worried about the worst. I remember that if I gave everything I had in this world to those doctors it would not help them. I was powerless and I realized that money is only paper.

Happiness is the same, at the age of twenty-one I remembered that I had a lot of money and at the same time I was shocked that I was suffering from depression. Occasionally I have money or someone who is very happy.

Can money buy a person's happiness?

Money is unlikely to buy happiness, but it may help you achieve happiness to an extent. Look for purchases that will help you feel fulfilled. And beyond that, you can find happiness through other nonfinancial means, like spending time with people you enjoy or thinking about the good things in your life.
