The underlying cause of IBS may be better understood if the new hypothesis brings together a number of disparate theories.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), the most common gastrointestinal disorder, may be brought on by gravity, according to a new theory proposed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center researchers.
According to the hypothesis, which was written by Brennan Spiegel, MD, MSHS, director of health services research at Cedars-Sinai and the author of the theory, the body's inability to control gravity could be the cause of IBS and numerous other conditions.

Spiegel, who is also a professor of medicine, stated, "Gravity has relentlessly shaped everything on the planet, from the earliest organisms to Homo sapiens." Spiegel remarked, "Our body systems are pulled down constantly."
