How Media is playing its role in Public Opinion Making

Role of Media in Opinion Making

The media has been a very influential factor in opinion-making. It is now more important than ever to examine the role of the media in shaping public perceptions, and opinions, especially about certain issues, and how those issues may be influencing peoples’ attitudes and behavior in general.

It should not be taken for granted that media alone can make people or even groups change their minds, opinions, and behavior about things. This claim will be examined and explained below.

The Importance Of Public Opinion On Political Actions And Motivation

When it comes to public opinion on political actions and motivation, there are three different types of opinions based on this term:

1) Justified – this type of opinion is formed out of an individual’s desire to do good by doing something just because they thought it was right.

2) Unjustified – this type of opinion is formed out of someone else’s decision to say something based on what the other person thinks of as “right” or “wrong”. For example, if you have two candidates vying for the same office, but one candidate says the other one said “yes” to everything he/she does then that is unjustified. Even though both candidates think they did the right thing, this one believes that his/her actions were right. Such views are often called “overly sympathetic”, also referred to as “unjustified views”

3) Rationale – this type of opinion is formed when a candidate makes decisions based on the reasons why he/she does a particular action. When a person does something purely for his reason, such as voting for a particular politician, it cannot be termed as being justified.

In all fairness though, the rationale does matter. But people need to understand that, as a consequence of that reasoning, the individual who made the judgment may change his/her mind depending on the outcome of the judgment as well as the reasons for that change of heart. That is to say, the rationality of a personal choice or judgment may depend on external factors.

How To Make Sense Of Some People’s Thoughts About Certain Issues?

On matters concerning politics, there may be times when the ideas people hold as the basis for these opinions are so strong that they cause them to act irrationally. As I have mentioned before, we humans are only able to know how best to react to situations in which the conditions in which they exist may change over time.

That is why it is important to look at the effects of politicians’ policies on public opinion. To some extent, people may agree with their leaders based on their support for policies like land reform, development of oil and gas, and taxation.

But it is equally important to note that sometimes when there is a conflict between the interests of people’s leaders and the interests of citizens, for instance regarding the economy. At times, people may perceive leaders in the government’s positions as having failed to fulfill their promises as regards economic growth, education, and health care. Those citizens who are affected by these happenings may suffer from a lack of confidence in the political system. These kinds of issues often increase anti-government protests that take place across many countries. All in all, public opinion on issues related to government and political leadership is usually shaped by the actions and policies of politicians.

For that reason, we must always remember the power of the media as well. From interviews with politicians to publications of political news, the press works hand in hand with politicians to influence people’s minds and opinions toward their policy objectives. We have seen time and again times that the most powerful nations use the news media to shape the opinions and behaviors of citizens daily. That is because the importance of journalists is to get information to and about people who are interested in issues affecting them. Therefore, to help us understand more about the media and how it influences opinions and behavior, we shall look at four examples of how the media has influenced opinions and behaviors.
