The United Opposition has filed a recusal motion in the National Assembly against Prime Minister Imran Khan for a no-confidence motion.
It may be recalled that for the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister to be successful, the support of 172 members is required, the opposition has 162 members and it needs the support of 10 more members.
The Legal Branch National Assembly said that according to the opposition relocation, the Speaker can now convene a meeting at any time. On the death of a member of the National Assembly, the first day's session may be adjourned without proceeding.
Under Article 95, the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister must be completed within seven days. Under the Constitution, the vote of no-confidence in the National Assembly will be by open ballot.
To know the success or failure of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, it is important to know the number of members of political parties in the National Assembly or the number of government and opposition seats.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is the largest numerical force in the National Assembly, formed as a result of the 2018 elections, and has formed a federal government with the support of other parties.
In Pakistan, the federal government has the support of 155 members of PTI in the National Assembly besides PML-Q 5, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan 7, Grand Democratic Alliance 3, Awami Muslim League 1, Balochistan Awami Party 5 and Jamhoori Watan Party 1.
Unlike the ruling coalition, the opposition members in the Assembly are PML-N 84, PPP 56, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Pakistan 15, Awami National Party 1 and Balochistan National Party 4.
There are four independent candidates in the National Assembly. Independent candidates include Mohsin Dawar from NA-48 North Waziristan, Ali Wazir from NA-50, Ali Nawaz Shah from NA-218 Mirpur Khas and Mir Muhammad Aslam Bhootani from NA-272 Gwadar.
Two independents are backed by the opposition, while two independents are claimed to be backed by the government.
Jamaat-e-Islami has a member of the National Assembly who is said to have not yet decided whether to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion.
Thus, in the 341-member National Assembly, the number of MNAs belonging to the ruling parties is 179, while 162 members are part of the opposition benches in the National Assembly.
It may be recalled that Khayal Zaman Orakzai, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly from Hangu, had passed away last month and elections will be held on April 10 next month.
If the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister succeeds, he will be deemed out of office, after which the Speaker will be obliged to immediately inform the President in writing of the outcome of the no-confidence motion.
The way the political situation is going on, it seems that removing the Prime Minister is a difficult process but the way the opposition is united and trying, every kind of pressure is being put on the Prime Minister. The PPP also carried out a long march, now Zardari is also using every tactic to remove the Prime Minister on his own. Zardari in his political meeting called the Prime Minister unclean, the kind of political tension is going on, it seems that this political enmity has now turned into personal enmity.
