HOW MANY ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL CRICKET WORLD CUP TOURNAMENTS WERE CONDUCTED AND WHO WERE THE CHAMPIONS?

THE DOMINATION OF WEST INDIES

The first cricket ODI World cup was held in the year 1975 at Lord’s ground, London. Sixty over were given for both the teams per match in the tournament. The Caribbean Kings dominated the Cricket world on those days and clinched the Title in the final by beating Australia with a margin of 17 runs.  The second and Third World Cups took place in London at the same venue, Lord’s, in 1979 and 1983 respectively, like 60 over matches. West Indies were entered the final both times. They had beaten the host, England, with a margin of 92 runs to win the 2^nd World Cup held in 1979.

THE FAMOUS WIN FOR INDIA

                 The domination of the giant West Indies was continued in the third World Cup, too, and reached the final. On the other side, team India qualified for the last in the 1983 World Cup. The Caribbean Kings was the advantage of winning the World Cup for the third time. But the Indian team had surprised them by defeating the two times World Champions with a margin of 43 runs. Indian squad posted a total of just 183 runs only. It seemed to be an effortless chase for West Indies. But the Indian bowlers had fought the battle very hard and made them all out. The rivals managed to get 140 runs only.  The first time the team India under the captainship of Kapildev won the World cup, it made history.

AUSTRALIA LIFTED THE CUP

                The fourth World Cup was hosted jointly by India and Pakistan in the year 1987. The final match was held at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Australia and England had qualified in the World Cup final for the second time. Huge expectations were raised from the two nations’ spectators, whereas the two teams were equally strong and fought for the Title. Australia beat England by 7runs and lifted the World Cup for the first time.

DOMINATION OF ASIAN COUNTRIES

                The team England entered the final of the fifth World Cup tournament for the third time, jointly hosted by New Zealand and Australia. They played the final against Pakistan, one of the Asian teams. Pakistan had shown a remarkable transformation in the Cricketing World. They won the World Cup for the first time by beating England with a margin of 22 runs held in Melbourne, Australia, 1992. And the sixth World Cup tournament was jointly hosted by Asian countries: India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The final was held at Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan, and played between Sri Lanka and Australia. Aussies who appeared for the 3rd time in the World Cup final set up the target of 242. Sri Lanka quickly chased the target with the loss of 3 wickets and won the final with seven wickets as they clinched the World Cup for the first time.

HAT-TRICK WORLD CUPS FOR MIGHTY AUSTRALIA

Australia came back strongly and dominated the cricket world for nearly a decade. They won the 1999 World Cup held in England, the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, and the 2007 World Cup in West Indies by beating the Asian nations Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka, respectively, who appeared in the World Cup final for the 2^nd time.   

28 YEARS OF DREAM COME TRUE ONCE AND AGAIN FOR INDIA

 The 10^th World Cup was hosted by India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. India and Sri Lanka were qualified for the 3^rd time in the World Cup finals. Lifting the World Cup between the two was held at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, India. India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets and lifted the trophy for the second time after 28 years.

NEW ZEALAND’S UNLUCKY IN CONSECUTIVE WORLD CUPS

Australia and New Zealand hosted the 11th edition of the World Cup in 2015. The hosted nations entered the final. They played against each other in the final. Australia won the World Cup for the fifth time, where no other teams lifted the Cup more than two times. They beat New Zealand by seven wickets. England and Wales hosted the next World Cup in the year 2019. The host England and New Zealand, appeared in the final. The first time in the history of the World Cup, the last match ended up in a tie. Super over was conducted, and it also went on a connection. The match officials declared the match results with the boundary counts. In that, England beat New Zealand by nine boundaries. England lifted the World Cup for the first time by appearing four times in the World Cup final.
