Sometimes we need to get out of our way and take advantage of ourselves. However, the fear of failure, ridicule, dislike, misunderstanding, can prevent us from moving into an unknown place and prevent us from making gradual progress in developing new skills, abilities and life experiences.
It can lead us to resist requests to try new places and things, to go to or speak at an event, out of fear or anxiety about what might happen. We can guess, we run the story of 'what if'. Maybe we are not sure what we are going to say or do, we are hesitant to risk looking foolish or timid about being shy.
But others also share that fear and anxiety, and it can encourage and motivate them to keep going when they see someone else taking the opportunity, refusing to get in their way and not emphasizing too much about the possible consequences.
Some tend to appreciate and support those who try, so why not instead take a few positive steps, stop fooling ourselves and enjoy the opportunity to get out of our comfort zone!
- Start small. By taking one step at a time, you gradually build up your self-confidence. If you have a social problem, instead of agreeing to go to dinner at a busy, smart restaurant, why not get used to going out for coffee and lunch at the busiest times of the day? Choose the best way to handle things at your own pace, make your day and get out of your way!
- Get used to meeting different people and going out. If you have a meeting, interview or presentation, practice pulling out a few points and rehearsing it in front of a mirror or with a small audience. Focus on areas you are not sure about.
- Be careful how he speaks to you. We often become very critical of ourselves, criticizing ourselves in ways that we would never dream of talking to others. Instead, tell yourself that you can, it is appropriate, that others are not interested in or investing in what you are doing like you; all means to help convey any doubts and initial doubts.
- Face areas that feel neglected, that need little help. Use this opportunity as a motivation to improve your appearance, your wardrobe, update your image, gain your conversational skills or education. It may require a little effort, but that commitment will be restored by improving your health and feeling more invested in the quality of your daily involvement.
- Keep up-to-date with local news and popular TV shows, so you can easily find conversations and interact with others. Or ask people 'soft' questions about their holidays or how they spend their time; safe ways to start conversations.
- Ask for the help of a supportive friend, family member, therapist, coach or mentor, someone next to you and who will support you, sometimes applaud your efforts, sometimes give you motivation to keep going. Be open to what is going on and enjoy positive feedback and suggestions. It may be amazing to see how others see us, compared to how we see ourselves.
- Develop a curious, enthusiastic mind by doing something new and challenging every day, to think and get out of your comfort zone. It could be that you just go on a different route to work, cooking something you have never tried before for dinner. Think of ways you can awaken to a positive, exciting and engaging way of life and enjoy where it takes you.
- Introduce opportunities to say 'yes' to invitations and try new experiences and relationships. Even agreeing to do things that may seem unattractive at first can lead to success and unexpected events. And sometimes using a 'no' can be good too, if it prevents you from getting frustrated and exhausted.
When we get out of our way, we stop thinking about how other people look at us, or how to keep them happy. We go beyond looking at the simple options in life or the excuses for not doing things. Be motivated to take a trip. When you get out of your way, you can make your day!
