What if you could use your computer as the day you first took it out of the box?
Here are 7 easy steps you can take to repair a slow PC in minutes.
* 1. Save your data * One of the easiest steps you can take to improve your storage space. If you store all your large files such as movies, music and pictures in an external repository or burn them to a CD, you will leave extra space for your computer to find out what it needs when you open the application. Saving space makes your computer faster.
* 2. Unpack your Recycle Bin * If you do not need a file, delete it. Not just in your recycling bin, but it has been great. Leaving your recycling bin full of old files means you are leaving trash on the path for daily applications. Shedding out your old trash can will make it easier - and faster - for your computer to open the program you want.
* 3. Uninstall old programs * In time, the average computer user will have twelve applications on his hard drive that were intended for a specific purpose, but have not been opened for a long time. Removing this is easy and frees up your computer to get the jobs you need.
To find and download old programs, go to Start - Control Panel - Uninstall a program (Vista), or XP users, follow start - Control Panel - Add / Remove Programs. This method will show you a list of common applications, some of which you may no longer use. Click on the program, then select 'Uninstall'.
* 4. Uninstall temporary files * Just as you want to clear your Recycle Bin daily, it is also a good idea to find and extract files you do not need. For example, you may have important documents in the last few months, but their usage has expired. Another example is pictures. You will download many images attached to emails, such as a signature file. This does not help you, but it does take up space on your computer. To delete your old and unnecessary files, go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup and select the files you want to delete.
* 5. Start System Discovery * If you are experiencing a new slow-moving PC, get a new computer in a few minutes by restoring your PC to the same factory settings you enjoyed while unplugging it from the box. * 6. Check your firewall * A slow PC may be the victim of a malicious program or virus, sometimes called 'malware' or 'spyware'. Spyware keeps tabs on information on your computer and may transmit it to thieves to use your credit card data or similar personal information. Check now if your firewall is turned on. * 7. Delete your subscription * The registry is like a computer library that stores your programs. Over time, as other programs are added and removed, and daily programs are opened more often than other Science Articles, your subscription ends up random and files are scattered everywhere. Old or crowded registrations will cause crashes and cracks in the blue screen.
