The question we need to ask is, by banning online gambling, will we make things better or worse?
The answer to that question is simple, banning legitimate and regulated gambling in any form, making it an alternative to organized crime to get people's money, and then no one but the winning criminals.
If you want to prevent a child from seeing an R-rated movie, you are not blocking a movie in theaters, right? Now that would be foolish just to make sure people do their best to check and make sure no one under the age of 18 gets into the movie. By blocking the movie, there is a good chance someone will get a copy of the bootleg and show it to every child in town.
So if you want to keep a child from online gambling, then all online casinos should be regulated and monitored, not banned.
The same goes for terrorists. If you believe that terrorist groups are exploiting an unregulated and unsupervised industry like the online gambling industry, by controlling it you can see where the money is going and be sure it will not support international terrorist attacks. All that is achieved by closing it down is that criminals have taken over the industry.
Banning online gambling is like a war on drugs. If marijuana was legal in the USA the related cases would almost certainly be eliminated because it would be sold in stores under control, another good thing is that people will not go to jail for marijuana-related offenses, this means. Thousands of young people are arrested and jailed every year, which could save us tax money that could be better used.
Making online gambling in the USA a legal form of adult entertainment will also bring an estimated $1.2 billion in taxes to the U.S. government. This money can be used for schools, police, and universal health care for all Americans.
This is how you improve the community, not by telling people what to do. It is human nature to demand what we can afford if you set too many rules to prevent people from doing something they are more likely to do.
People are more likely to become addicted to gambling at a regulated casino such as an uncontrolled one, but the difference is that in a controlled casino they will not extend the amount of debt that will land you in an illegal casino.
And at a controlled casino, they will have information on how to get help if you have a gambling problem. In an illegal casino, they will not have this kind of information, they want you to keep gambling until you have nothing, and then let you cross over and find someone to take your place.
Over time, society can only prosper if we educate people about the dangers of gambling both online and in the casino, and not by blocking the industry that employs thousands of people around the world. No one benefits by simply telling people that they cannot do what they are doing.
It is time for the government to learn this and stop making the same mistakes every year.
