On October 7, many people were killed in an attack by Hamas, the armed group of the Palestinian independence movement, in Israel. Israel has taken a special method to find the bodies of many of them. A wildlife expert in the country said carnivorous birds were being used to search for the bodies.
That expert's name is Ohad Hatzofe. He is an official of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. Ohad said that eagles, vultures and other birds of prey fitted with tracking devices (identification devices) are being used to search for bodies. The information from the device is helping to identify the location of the body.
More than 1,400 people died in Israel in the attack by Hamas on October 7. In addition, Hamas fighters took many hostages to the Gaza Strip in Palestine. Since that day, the Israeli forces have continued to bombard Gaza indiscriminately. Ground operations are also underway. More than 10,800 Palestinians have been killed so far, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
A team named 'EITAN' of the human resources branch of the Israeli army came up with the idea of identifying the location of the body through birds. It is their responsibility to find the missing soldiers. Ohad said, "When the war started, some reservists came to me. They wanted to know if my birds could help in any way.''
Ohad heads a project to identify the endangered griffon vulture. These vultures mainly survive by eating the flesh of dead animals. Apart from this, other birds of prey like eagles are also worked under that project. They also eat corpses to survive.
On October 23, one such eagle was found in Israel's Beri area near the Gaza Strip. It entered Israeli airspace a day after spending the summer in northern Russia. Ohad said he sent the information obtained from the tracking device attached to the eagle's body to the army. Later, four dead bodies were found in the area. Another Eagle helped find several more bodies inside Israel.
Beri is located in the Kibbutz area of Israel. A recent attack by Hamas killed 85 people there. 30 people are still missing in Berry area. They are believed to be among the 240 hostages held by Hamas. The Israeli police said on Monday that 843 civilians and 351 soldiers were killed in the Hamas attack. Many are still unaccounted for.
Israel claims to capture the Hamas base in a 10-hour battle
Israel's ground operation in the Gaza Strip of Palestine is going on. There is a fierce battle between Israeli forces and Hamas, the armed group of the Palestinian independence movement. In the meantime, Israel claimed to occupy a base of Hamas by fighting for 10 hours. The base is in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on social media X (formerly Twitter) today that many terrorists were killed in the 10-hour battle. Many weapons were seized. Terrorist's tunnel has been found. One of these tunnels starts from a kindergarten.
Israeli forces claimed control of the Hamas base, while the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that a house was destroyed by Israeli warplanes in the Jabalia refugee camp. Many are buried under the rubble. Many were also injured in Gaza City.
Meanwhile, Israel has claimed to destroy 130 tunnels of Hamas since the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza. In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said it was working to locate and destroy Hamas installations, including tunnels. Water and oxygen reserves have been found in these tunnels.
Heavy fighting was reported today near Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City amid Israeli ground operations. In addition to patients, the hospital also houses thousands of Palestinians to escape Israeli bombardment. Israel accused Hamas of using the hospital as a shield to protect its fighters and tunnels.
Hamas has also reported its progress in the fight with Israel. Today, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, claimed to have destroyed three vehicles and a bulldozer used by Israeli forces near the Al-Shati camp in Gaza. In addition, two Israeli tanks were destroyed in Gaza City. On the other hand, the Palestinian armed group Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad, claimed the bombing of Israeli vehicles in Gaza City.
