Reflecting on this incident in a recent disclosure, Rohit shed light on the rationale behind his reaction, attributing it to his prior failure to register a run in the series. The significance of notching up those initial runs was paramount for him. When the leg-bye was signaled, he found it irresistible to hold back his response.
"When you're coming off two zeros, we understand the gravity of scoring the first run. I struck a four with the bat, but the umpire seemingly overlooked it, attributing it to leg byes. Generally, I don't pay much attention to the scoreboard while batting. My focus is on my innings. However, when the over concluded, I glanced at the scoreboard and noticed Rohit Sharma still at 0. I thought, 'I just scored a four. How can it still be zero?' So, I inquired, 'Viru, did you give it off the thigh pad?'" shared Rohit during an event in Bilaspur.
Prompted about his favorite among the viral one-liners from the past, Rohit asserted that he engages in spontaneous dialogue and harbors no particular preferences.
"See, I don't have any preferred line, and I don't intentionally engage in it. Now, being the captain, I stand in the slips for a better field view and DRS assessment. Conversing with the fielders comes naturally, and it gets recorded," he explained.
