How is Heart Disease?

Heart disease is a very broad term. Heart disease refers to cardiovascular disease (CVD) (cardio) and vascular disease (vascular), hence cardio-vascular disease. However, heart disease is called heart disease.

The word heart disease is a very broad term. Problems may arise within the heart muscle, Guest Posting arteries that carry blood to the heart muscle, or valves inside the heart that pump blood properly.

Understanding the differences between each heart disease can help with the confusing use of the term heart disease.

Coronary artery disease or CAD is the most common form of heart disease and the leading cause of death for both genders in the U.S. These arteries become thicker and narrower due to the accumulation of cholesterol waxy, a fatty substance called plaque.

This formation of plaque is known as atherosclerosis. Increased plaque formation causes the coronary arteries to narrow. This will cause blood flow to be limited, reducing the amount of oxygen supplied to the heart muscle.

Reducing the amount of oxygen supplied to the heart muscle can cause angina (chest pain) and lead to a heart attack. Coronary artery disease over time can weaken the heart muscle and contribute to heart failure and arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat).

Heart disease is another confusing form of heart disease. Heart disease is not the same as coronary artery disease. Although coronary artery disease refers to coronary arteries, heart disease refers to coronary arteries and complications.

These include problems such as chest pain, heart disease, and scars caused by heart attacks. Understanding the underlying differences between the two may impress your cardiologist.

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. Cardiomyopathy can be hereditary or be caused by a viral infection. Cardiomyopathy can be classified as primary or secondary. Primary cardiomyopathy is caused by a specific cause (high blood pressure, congenital heart disease, coronary heart disease).

Second, cardiomyopathy is caused by certain causes (diseases that affect other organs).

There are three main types of cardiomyopathy. Dilated cardiomyopathy, enlargement and stretching of the heart muscle. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy causes stiffness of the heart muscle. Restrictive cardiomyopathy causes the heart ventricles to become too tight, which causes blood flow to the ventricles to become difficult during heartbeat.

Valvular heart disease is a disease that affects the heart valves. The valves inside the heart keep the blood flowing properly. Damage to the valves can be caused by a variety of conditions that lead to recurrence or dysfunction (leak valve), prolapse (improper valve closure), or stenosis (narrowing of the valve).

Valvular heart disease can be hereditary. Valvular heart disease can be caused by certain diseases such as rheumatic fever, with certain medications or radiation treatment.

The pericardium is a sac that connects the heart. Pericardial disease is inflammation (pericarditis), constipation (constrictive pericarditis), or fluid accumulation (pericardial effusion) of the pericardium.

Pericardial disease can be caused by many things, like what happens after a heart attack.

 

Congenital heart disease is a type of heart disease that occurs before birth. Congenital heart disease is a very broad term. However, these diseases usually affect the formation of heart muscle, chambers, or valves.

A few examples include congestion or reduction of part of the aorta; the atrial or ventricular septal defect is called a hole in the heart. Congenital heart disease should be described more accurately as a congenital defect that occurs in about 1% of newborns.

Congenital heart disease can be inherited (or inherited), or it can be caused by a number of illnesses, such as German measles that is contracted during pregnancy. However, researchers are currently investigating the possible causes of congenital heart disease.

Heart failure is another type of heart disease characterized by the inability of the heart to pump enough blood to parts of the body and tissues. When vital organs do not receive adequate blood flow, certain signs and symptoms may occur, such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid retention.

Congestive heart failure is a type of heart failure that leads to the formation of fluid in the body. It is important to note that not all heart failure is depressive. Heart failure may cause other heart diseases such as cardiomyopathy or heart disease. Heart failure may occur suddenly or progress over many years.

 

February is National Heart Awareness Month. However, awareness of heart disease should be daily. With amazing statistics, awareness begins with understanding the different types of heart disease. Diet and lifestyle related to heart health can mean the difference between health and statistic.
