How is friction very important?

How is friction significant?

 

When we pull a table lying on the ground with a low amount of force, it does not move at all. This is a common force between the ground or the table. It means the ground's surface on which the table is lying exerts a force on the table, which acts in the opposite direction to the force of our pull. This force is known as frictional force. Let us take one example: a Tyre moving on the ground, but sometimes later, it stops moving because of frictional force. The definition of friction is Force that always stops a moving object is called friction.

 

The frictional force always stops a moving object. All objects have a smooth surface, but we cannot see with the naked eye. We can see this rough surface with a microscope. When we see this surface with a microscope, we find that the surface is rough. We see many of the surfaces become small hills and grooves.

 

Friction in different surface

 

The friction is not the same for all ground. The friction depends on the ground. If the ground is smooth, then the frictional force is low, but the frictional force is high if the ground is not smooth.

 

The three types of friction

 

  1. Static friction
  2. Sliding friction
  3. Rolling friction

 

  1. Static friction

 

The highest frictional force present between two things when one thing tends to move over the ground of the other object is called static friction. Static friction is a starting friction because it starts moving, and it doesn't move. The thing remains static.

 

  1. Sliding friction

 

Frictional force present when a thing moves very slowly like a sea turtle is known as sliding friction.

 

  1. Rolling friction

 

When a thing rotates on the surface of another thing, the resistance of its moving is known as rolling friction. It is much easier to rotate a thing over another thing than to slide a thing. The slide friction is more compared to rolling friction because rolling reduces friction.

 

What can we do with friction?

 

  1. We can walk on surfaces because of the friction. If there is no friction, then we will slip on the surface. So friction is significant to walk.

 

  1. We can drive a car without skidding because of the friction. If there is no friction, then our car tire rolls at one place and doesn't move forward or backward. So friction is significant to drive a car.

 

  1. Our car brakes work because of friction. If there is no friction, we can't use our car's brake, which means the car will not stop without friction. 

 

  1. We can draw, write because of friction. If there is no friction, then we can't write or draw anything properly. So friction is significant to write or draw.

 

How to increase friction

 

  1. Grooves are made in our sports shoes to increase friction because when we run, we have to be very careful about slipping on the surface, and if there is more friction between our shoes and the surface, there is a meager chance of slipping.

It means friction is significant in our life. If there is no friction, then we can do nothing.
