Three more international travellers -- two COVID-19 positive and another suspected case -- were admitted on Monday to the Delhi government-run Lok Nayak Hospital's special facility for isolating and treating those infected with the new variant Omicron, officials said. "There are a total of 26 people -- 19 positive cases and 7 suspected cases -- in the facility at present.

 

Of the three international travellers who arrived today, two have been found COVID-19 positive. All three are Indians and have come from Dubai, France and the UK," Medical Director Suresh Kumar said. The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department Tuesday clarified that no international arrival, including those from “at-risk countries” have tested positive on arrival at the Bengaluru airport this month. 

 

According to data collated from the airport by the government, as many as 4,225 passengers (including children) landed at the Airport from December 1 to 6 in 17 flights from at-risk countries. 

 

While 4,021 of them were subjected to Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT), 309 samples were collected for RT-PCR testing, with all results returning negative.India recorded 6,822 new covid-19 cases and 200 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am Tuesday. Due to the rising cases, several states have stepped up vaccination, surveillance and containment measures.

 

Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday directed Delhi airport operator DIAL to implement better crowd management strategies after passengers complained of chaos and crowding at its terminal following the implementation of new coronavirus-related travel guidelines. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the public not to panic and follow Covid appropriate behaviour.

 

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu government has taken preventive measures including door-to-door vaccination in wake of Omicron variant. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the state is fully prepared to control the new variant. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said there is need to take a decision at the national level on whether a booster dose of the vaccine is required to curb the pandemic. “The Centre too should take a strict position on patients coming from abroad in various states.
