Deepak Chahar has scored a maiden half-century batting at No. 8 to guide India to a three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second one-day international and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
India lost seven wickets for 193 runs during their chase and looked in danger of defeat, but Chahar paired with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (19 not out) for an undefeated 84-run stand for the eighth wicket to ensure victory.
Earlier, Chahar also shone with the ball taking two wickets for 53 runs in eight overs in Sri Lanka’s innings and was named player. Kumar took 3-54 off 10 overs.
Chahar, playing only his fifth ODI, remained unbeaten on 69 off 82 deliveries with seven boundaries and one six.
It was Sri Lanka’s 10th successive ODI series loss to India as hosts.
Sri Lanka’s leg-spin bowler Wanindu Hasaranga had impressive bowling figures of 3-37 off 10 overs.
Charith Asalanka also made his maiden ODI half-century earlier for Sri Lanka, scoring 65 runs, including six boundaries.
Leg spin bowler Yuzvendra Chahal had the best bowling figures for India, taking 3-50 off 10 overs.
The final match of the series will be played on Friday.
India won the match with the help of dhoni.

India gets the lead in the three-match series on Sunday. Deepak Chahar was brilliant with both bat and ball. India was seven down at one point and needed 83 runs to win. Chahar then took charge and delivered with the bat. He got to his maiden half-century and remained not out till the end. Earlier, after winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 275/9. With the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up three wickets apiece. Both teams will now meet on Friday for the third ODI at the same venue.
There are certain things that no one wants to change for India; it's their winning streak in Sri Lanka, 10th consecutive ODI win for the Indian team, on Sri Lankan soil. Deepak Chahar was brilliant tonight with the ball earlier and later with the bat as well. India was seven down at a time and needed 83 runs to win the game. Who would have thought what's gonna happen further? India got a new batting hero who can bat at number 8, and this innings from Deepak Chahar will be remembered for a long time. India is 2-0 up in the series.
