In this article, I will guide you through the process of starting your own web-based home business. I will try to unravel another mystery in the system. By following this guide, you will be getting up and running in the shortest possible time without having to invest a lot of money.
First, you need to know what your business is going to do. Will it provide the service? Are you planning to sell products? Those are the two most common types of web-based businesses that I will discuss in this article.
If you plan to provide a service, what kind of service will you be offering? Will it be given to people who own websites? Will it be a service anyone can use, or will it end up in your area?
Ask yourself the same questions about yourself when planning to sell a product. Will it be a product you sell and deliver locally, nationally, or globally? If you choose worldwide, do you know anything about exporting your product overseas? The same applies to national delivery. Do you know the costs associated with bringing your product everywhere to the nation where you live?
Once you've answered those questions, you'll have a better idea of what your home web business will look like.
Next, you will need a domain name. Many people think that their company name is the best way to get a domain name, however, a common domain name with keywords associated with your product or service will work best for you. You can also register your company name as a domain name and point it to your website, but it is not required.
A common domain name can help you with search engine traffic and can be very memorable. Only one of the many features that will help you in your search engine optimization, but this is a step you should take when you start. For example: Cars.com is a better domain name than Ford.com, even though Ford spent millions on advertising and branding. Even cheapusedcars.com is better because people will look for that.
You need to find a good domain name registrar, not a cheap domain name registrar. Cheap means cheap in the domain name domain. Your domain name is important. Spending $25 a year on a multiservice provider and VS quality spending $10 or less on a cheap registrar is what we are talking about here. If that extra $15 a year will make or break your home business, you probably should not start one.
Next, you will need a web hosting service. Again, cheap is no better. There are good services to hold $100 a year or less. Anyone who offers less than that should raise a red flag. Select and pay for your hosting for at least a year, as long as you sign up for your domain name. If you go with a monthly plan, you are probably not fully committed to your new home business.
Now, you have your domain name and the hosting of your new website, but where is the website, and how do I get that? You have a few options. You can read HTML and create your own. You can use the WYSIWYG editor as FrontPage to build your website. You can hire someone to build your website for you.
First, we will talk about learning html to build your website for your home business. There is a learning curve here. This is the best of the three options I mentioned above, but it takes time to learn. You will probably not be able to work in a few days with this option. Over time, it will save you a lot of money to learn html and build your websites. The more websites you have in your portfolio, the more likely you are to have one that wins the most. Writing your code means you can create a new website as many times as you like.
Next, build your home business website with the WYSIWYG editor. (What You See Is What You Get). These editors are the same as making a document. Everything is visible and you do not need to know html. The learning curve of these editors is much smaller than that of learning to code your website.
However, these websites have limitations. Since website code is generated automatically, it often has errors. In addition, you should make sure that your hosting has the right extensions for hosting your website. Front Page Extensions are an example when you use Front Page WSYIWYG.
This option will get you up and running quickly, but you need to hire someone to set the code for you so that the page can always load correctly and efficiently. How your website is viewed in different browsers, how fast your website loads, and what your website looks like are all design features that make a difference to your customers, so rate each option carefully.
Next, hiring a web designer to build your home business website is another option. A professional web designer knows how to give your website the look and feel you want. However, be careful when choosing a web designer. I will add some things to note here;
1. If they say they will register your domain name, say no. Registering a domain name is not difficult in practice. Do this yourself. Most web designers register a domain name in the cheapest place they can find and charge you $100 or more per year for a domain name. Then many of them registered it in their name! This will cause you problems if you decide not to use their services. Domain name must always be in your name.
2. Ask them which program they are using to build your website. If they are going to use Front Page or Dreamweaver or another WYSIWYG editor, you can also build your own home business website. If they do not write HTML from the beginning, they should not be in the web design business.
