Global warming is the increase in average global temperatures caused by a variety of different greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (NO), and carbon monoxide (CO). The term "global" refers to the climate all over Earth including everything from the ice sheet in the Polar Regions to the tropics of Africa. This increased temperature can occur naturally due to natural climate processes like the El Nino effect. However, when this effect becomes more significant such as through human-induced activities, it will typically trigger changes in weather patterns, which increases global-scale effects on climate. To understand what an average global temperature increase of 0.2 degrees Celsius would mean for Europe let's say we have no other sources of greenhouse gases besides CO2 or NO since there are two main sources on each of their continents: Russia and China. As per the research done by researchers in Milan (Italy), they concluded that global warming of around 0.2 degrees Celsius over the last 3 decades is enough to make Europe on par with the Arctic Circle. That means the Mediterranean Sea will warm up to the water level of Greenland within 100 years. With just 1 degree Celsius warming, even a small decrease in snow cover can translate into a huge difference in sea level and the amount of land it covers, especially along its coastlines. Therefore, any change in how much land is covered by snow can affect local economies either directly or indirectly.
We may not know exactly how many times CO2 has been absorbed in the atmosphere due to natural causes but most scientists believe it was between 50 and 125 million tons. As stated before, we can't really see the exact increase in greenhouse gases but because of these human-induced emissions in the atmosphere, things like the ozone layer are being destroyed. We don't know the actual percentage of CO2 emitted but according to experts, it could reach 20 percent of total energy. Most of the emission of CO2 happens from vehicles. When you consider the high-speed trains and planes flying over large regions like the North Pole, the atmosphere absorbs almost 4 percent of CO2. Moreover, with CO2 and other greenhouse gases as primary sources of our heat-trapping inside the greenhouse belt, it's only logical that the temperature and surface area would stay higher during summer. But, if we start to absorb more CO2, it will push the planet back out to a hotter state. And, that would create an imbalance of pressure, which may impact air circulation and cause extreme hot spells.
If CO2 had remained stable, and no greenhouse gas had been induced, the temperature ranges of Europe would not be growing. So, since CO2 is present in the atmosphere and cannot be removed by natural means, the oceans would keep getting warmer. But if the ocean kept rising in oceans, it also implies that sea levels will rise; so it has to be considered one of Earth's major catastrophes. Another major source of CO2 is agriculture. So people are mainly using crops instead of forests to use agricultural products like corn and wheat. It is known that there are still positive correlations between both CO2 and ocean carbon levels. In addition, the majority of food grown in Europe comes from tropical areas, which implies that the ocean level will eventually rise. Therefore, the sea level will continue to rise unless drastic changes are done soon. If CO2 stays the same, then the water level will stay the same too. People tend to forget this truth by saying that increasing water levels won't negatively affect their economy, but it's actually a big deal. For example, a large number of European countries depend on tourism and industrial supply, which makes people dependent on coastal cities. Any time the ocean level rises, people won't want to relocate their businesses or relocate their industries to regions far away. An extreme rise in sea level could potentially lead to the collapse of various towns, and that, obviously, will also impact the global economy.
A couple of ways to lower the CO2 emissions are, of course, planting trees and saving money on transportation and electricity. Furthermore, people could make better use of renewable energy resources and invest in solar panels and wind turbines to replace hydroelectric plants.
As stated above, a substantial part of CO2 released through cars and aircraft comes from exhaust gases directly, rather than from burning fuel. Even though some of them may sound harmless, CO2, combined with oxygen, forms ozone. There's nothing wrong with ozone, it's just produced as a result of manmade pollution. Our ozone layer shields us from harmful UV rays, but it also blocks harmful heat. Ozone has several negative effects on humans such as damaging the skin, causing asthma, aggravating rheumatoid arthritis, and causing cancer. These are the most common diseases we suffer from due to ozone pollution. Thus, a lot of money should be put into preventing ozone formation.
