The city of Miami looks to be playing way above what pundits and fans expected this year in the NBA and NHL. But it’s not only the hockey and professional basketball teams that have reached the pinnacle of their sports, playing in both the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals. The GOAT of soccer, Lionel Messi, is going to be expressing his talents at South Beach next season, playing for David Beckham’s Miami.
Florida Panthers
The Stanley Cup has recently drawn to an exciting end; just before the finals, the Panthers had a +850 chance of winning this year. It didn’t look the greatest on paper, but to get to the finals they have had some stunning victories against the odds, leaving fans and bettors hoping it was too early to write the Panthers off completely.
The Boston Bruins had a record-breaking season this year, earning the most points and wins ever, making their pathway to the first-round game of the Stanley Cup. The Bruins were up against the Florida Panthers, which looked to be a fairly straightforward step in continuing through the competition considering their form. The Bruins took a 3-1 lead over the Panthers to begin with, and it looked as if they were going to win. However, to the Bruins' surprise, the Panthers came back to win three consecutive games, stunning the Bruins and cutting their time in the Stanley Cup short.
In the final, the Panthers faced the Vegas Golden Knights. The Panthers couldn’t go on to lift the trophy, ultimately losing 4-1 and proving the bookmakers were right. Although they lost overall, Florida is looking to increase their form for the future, taking the team to the very top. This has left fans wondering what betting apps are legal in Florida, so they can get involved in the action for the next season. Florida’s gambling laws are complicated, with things seemingly on hold at the moment, but that’s not to say betting on the Panthers is impossible. There is a range of platforms licensed elsewhere available to Florida residents and Panthers fans.
And although Vegas is a tough team to play, the Panthers have had the odds stacked against them from the very beginning of their Stanley Cup run. On March 18th, the Panthers were at odds of roughly +10000 to win the cup according to many bookmakers, with the fewest points to make the playoffs of any other team. The Panthers have faced three of the top four teams to reach this point in the tournament, showing how well they have worked as a team since the playoffs started and making them a solid bet for next season.
Miami Heat
Although the start of their playoff run didn't go as planned when they were defeated by the Atlanta Hawks, the Miami Heat have since gone on to win against the infamous Chicago Bulls, and later the number one ranked team, the Milwaukee Bucks. After this win, the Heat didn’t think of slowing things down with wins over the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics.
The finals saw them up against the Denver Nuggets, and while Miami had been playing way above what had been expected throughout the season, their opponents had a comfortable series of games, winning 4-1 overall.
The path to the finals for the Miami Heat has been similar to that of the Panthers in how many top-four teams they have faced. This season, the Bucks and the Celtics have had the best records in the NBA, both of which Miami has defeated on the road to the finals.
Inter Miami
There was speculation about a return to Barcelona for Lionel Messi after he decided not to renew his contract at Paris Saint-Germain. However, instead, it has been announced that he will move to MLS and play for David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the upcoming season.
Rumors are always in abundance when the transfer season begins, with other projections of Messi following the same path as Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to Saudi Arabia. Instead, Messi is joining other international stars such as Gareth Bale, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard, and Wayne Rooney playing in the US League later in their careers.
