Form and meaning
We use the (definite article) when the listener/reader knows which person or thing we are talking about. This may be because:
We have mentioned this person/thing before and so there is shared knowledge between speaker and listener / writer and reader it is clear from the context which person or thing we are talking about there is only one of a particular person or thing.

The indefinite article takes two forms. It’s the word a when it precedes a word that begins with a consonant. It’s the word a when it precedes a word that begins with a vowel. The usual word order is article + adjective + noun.

There are a few exceptions to the general rule of using a before words that start with consonants and a before words that begin with vowels. The first letter of the word honor, for example, is a consonant, but it’s pronounced. In spite of its spelling, the word honor begins with a vowel sound. Therefore, we use.
