How Ehsaas Program uplift Country’s most vulnerable cities, a study by Stanford University

One of the world's leading universities, Stanford, California, has published a paper on the Ehsaas program and how the world can learn from Imran Khan's (Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, 8 August 2018 to 10 April 2022) ideology of the Ryasat-Medina (State of Madina). This article titled “Regional Social Development Structures: Lessons from the Ehsaas Program of Pakistan” was written by Michael Barber (British Educationist) and Muqueet Shahzad.

Forward to the paper, which stated that this anti-poverty program has set itself as an important example apart from the other world-class efforts to uplift the most vulnerable parts of any nation. This paper is a review of the Ehsaas Program, launched by the Government of Pakistan in 2018 which was called off later when Imran Khan was ousted from his position. Ehsaas, in its quest for a comprehensive and integrated response to poverty, provides a variety of services to vulnerable Pakistanis, including unconditional transfers, targeted subsidies, and increased health and nutritional coverage. This study analyzed various policy changes, plans, and practices that have been made during this period and examined the lessons that these changes impart to world policymakers. In particular, this study indicated the importance of great leadership, forming strong institutions, efficient use of data and technology, and implementing an integrated, inclusive approach to poverty alleviation. Their findings showed that these changes have enabled Ehsaas to effectively measure impact, increase transparency, and improve the effectiveness of its interventions while building trust between beneficiaries and program managers.

The Pakistani government had been using the Ehsaas Program as Imran Khan's key initiative toward social welfare to improve the living conditions of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the country. The program provides money transfers to eligible homes, as well as access to health, education, and livelihood services. As of May 2020, more than 4 million families have benefited from this program. Includes the launch of the National Social Security Network Site and the launch of the Social Security Card (including the Sehat Sahulat Card, special access to health insurance). This program has been successful in helping many of the most vulnerable people in Pakistan and is regarded as the world's leading anti-poverty effort till now. Moreover, Ehsaas provides lessons on policy, planning, and transformation initiatives for policymakers around the globe.

While the resources of the Ehsaas Program are influential, transparent, and efficient, they also help close the gap between the state and its citizens, as concluded by the article. This study examined various policy changes, plans, and applications made during this period, focusing on the lessons provided by these changes to global policymakers. In addition, the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSIIS) at Stanford University has declared the Ehsaas Program as a global symbol of the foundation of a developing world and the so-called Ehsaas Program is a world-class effort to fight poverty to uplift the most vulnerable citizens.
