How does fast fashion affect the environment

We all say these dialogues every day" these clothes are not in trend, where some trendy. This design is almost everywhere. This is in trend order, this one". By saying this, we keep ordering shoes and clothes frequently. But have you ever thought what exactly a fashion is? Who set these trends? And why the fashion changes frequently?

Well, fashion has no fixed definition, but when a celebrity or known person wear a design, most of the people start buying that design and wear it, then that goes on as a trend. As the textile and apparel is a huge industry, they change the designs time to time, which is the need for the industrial benefit. And we, as a trend follower, follow the new fashions, buy new clothes and discard the old ones.

The studies have found that, a huge section of these fashion followers are the young women. From every three girls, one believes that wearing a dress more than three times is not trendy. Due to this trend, every year, 91 million tons of clothes waste are generated whose net worth is more than 500 million dollars.

You will be surprised to know that fashion industries uses up to 79 billion cubic meter water every year and contribute to 8% of total carbon emissions. As plastic are being used in fashion industries nowadays, so this also generates a lot of micro plastics. So, just to summarize it, due to our frequent changed fashions, a huge amount of waste is generated, carbon is emitted, water is polluted and a lot of water is wasted as well. There are some steps which can help in overcoming the waste generated from fashion industries.

1. Reusing clothes

The first step is to use your clothes fully for a longer time, means we mustn't discard our clothes because they are not in trend. Your identity is defined by your personality, not your clothes.

2. Buying things which are not in fast fashion

Buy such clothes which are simple and elegant, which are always in fashion. Like plane t-shirt, simple genes which have no designs, and no prints. Because the trend and fashion of simple clothes never end.

3. Buying sustainable clothes

Search those brand which are sustainable, carbon-neutral and are in your budget. By doing this, the sustainable clothing industries will get a boom and the big companies will also think about sustainability.

4. Renting one time clothes

The most expensive clothes are bought for events. Like for wedding ceremonies and any other functions or event. Such clothes can't be used in daily wearings. And if they are repeated in different events, they will give the same look. Almost each city has such store where we can take clothes in rent for one or two days, and can return it after use. Like this, we can wear different clothes in different functions and the waste generation is also limited.

5. Donating clothes

The best way to discard old clothes is to donate it. Because by donating clothes, they will go in waste, instead they will reach to those who are in need of this. There are various trust worldwide who transport such clothes to needy people.

We don't mean, you should stop following fashion and trends, but by taking these steps you can extend and overcome the problem of creating waste from clothes.

The world is full of problems. Every day a new issue hits the earth and scientist worldwide are always working and doing researches to solve the problems of the earth. But sometimes, there are such issues that are not possible to be solved by the Scientist easily. Nowadays, from all these serious issues, one of them is global warming.

What do scientists say about global warming?

The global warming is basically the increase in temperature of the planet earth. This increase in temperature of the earth is due to changing of the climate. The change in climate has two causes; one is the natural cause and the second one is human cause. The Natural climate change is due to floods, volcanic eruption, asteroids that hit the earth surface, heat from the Sun etc. Which are basic. The second one, which is the human cause, is more dangerous than the natural one. Because it is changing the climate quickly. The Human causes are the harmful gases which are released by automobiles and factories and other such human activities. These gases are increasing the temperature of the earth surface to a dangerous level, which will make life impossible on the earth surface, if their release is not controlled.

  1. According to an international team of researchers, the rate of global warming on the earth surface can increase two percent more than the prediction of scientists. For example, if the temperature increases 2 degree centigrade extra, then the level of Sea will also increase about 6 meters, which is a risk factor for nearby areas.
  2. According to research of the nature of geoscience, within 3.5 million years, the temperature of earth only increased 0.5 to 2 degree centigrade, but in 19th century, due to industrial revolution, the temperature of earth increased more than 8 degree centigrade, and now in 21st century, it can increase more 2 degree centigrade.
  3. According to scientist, when temperature of the atmosphere increases, the glaciers of the oceans start to melt, which have already started. The melting of glaciers rises the sea level and through which the big desert areas like the Sahara desert will be fertilized and grow green. But the areas above Sea level will be effected by a high amount of heat due to global warming, which will make life difficult for survival on the earth surface.
