How is LPG made?
LPG is produced during oil refining or is extracted during the natural gas production process. If you release LPG, gas is emitted. In order to transport it, LPG needs to be placed under modest pressure to form a liquid. It can then be stored and transported in LPG cylinders.
Liquid petroleum gases were discovered in 1912 when Dr. Walter Snelling, an American scientist, realized that these gases could be changed into liquids and stored under moderate pressure. From 1912 and 1920, LP-gas uses were developed.
The brand was conceived in 1964 to bring modern cooking to Indian kitchens. The first Indane company LPG connection was released on 22 October 1965 at Kolkata. Indane company serves more than 130 million families through a network of 12,500 distributors.
When was CNG invented?
The use of methane for vehicles, started in the 1930s and has continued off and on until today. Since 2008 there have been a large market expansion for natural gas vehicles (CNG and LPG) caused by the rise of petrol prices and by the need to reduce air pollution emissions.
LPG is short for liquefied petroleum gas which is either propane or butane with a heat content of 93.2MJ/m3. Natural gas is however primarily methane and has a heat content of 38.7MJ/M3. Natural gas is delivered to homes via gas pipelines underground.
LPG is prepared by refining petroleum or "wet" natural gas, and is almost entirely derived from fossil fuel sources, being manufactured during the refining of petroleum (crude oil), or extracted from petroleum or natural gas streams as they emerge from the ground.
The government announced a New Economic Policy on July 24, 1991. This new model of economic reforms is commonly known as the LPG or Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization model.
There is a lot of confusion about sustainability today, but I am clear about this: LPG is the most sustainable fossil fuel. Why? As long as crude oil and natural gas are extracted and processed, LPG will be produced, as a by-product, an associated gas. If not used, it would have been flared in the air.
What are the effects of LPG?
Inhalation of gaseous propane (the major component of LPG) is known to cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, hallucinations and a feeling of euphoria and to suppress central nervous system (CNS) function
The cause of death after exposure to LPG has generally been considered to be asphyxia from hypoxia. The large differences in the blood propane levels found here and reported in the literature, however, suggest that direct toxic effects of propane poisoning may be the cause of death in some cases.
Does LPG produce CO2?
LPG powered vehicles have been observed to produce low oxides of nitrogen (NOX), carbon monoxide (CO), and total hydrocarbon (THC) emissions similar to gasoline, while emitting less carbon dioxide (CO2) and particulates.
Does LPG cause pollution?
LPG is albeit considered to be a clean fuel, there is some pollution which can be associated with the use of LPG. To understand this, let us take a look at the emission from Liquefied Petroleum Gas. LPG produces about 45% less carbon dioxide when compared to diesel.
