How do I know Iam suffered from constipation?

When a person passes less than three bowel movements a week or has difficult bowel movements, we call that as "constipation". Many people have this problem nowadays. Let's see the causes, symptoms and home remedies for this problem.

Causes of constipation:

Constipation can occur occasionally in people of all ages. However, there are some individuals and circumstances that have a higher propensity to cause chronic constipation.

-Aged more: Elderly adults have a tendency to be less active, have slower metabolisms, and have weaker muscle contractions along their digestive tracts.

-Pregnancy: During pregnancy and after giving birth, women are more prone to constipation due to hormonal changes. Stool passage is slowed and delayed by the baby's uterine squishing of the intestines.

-Meals without fiber content: High-fiber foods help digestion by keeping food moving. People who eat low-fiber food can face constipation.

Using particular drugs: Some drugs and their chemical composition cause constipation.

-not getting enough fluids (dehydration).

-not working out enough.

-alterations to your daily schedule, such as travelling, eating, or sleeping at various times.

-consuming a lot of milk or cheese.

-Stress.

-not giving in to the urge to urinate.

What really happens inside your body when constipation occurs?

Constipation results from your colon absorbing excessive amounts of water from waste (stool/poop), which dries out the stool and makes it difficult to push out of the body.

To go back a little, nutrients are generally absorbed as food passes through the digestive tract. The waste from partially digested food travels from the small to the large intestine, generally known as the colon. This waste is turned into a solid stool when the colon collects water from it. Food may pass through the digestive system too slowly if you have constipation. The colon is given more time—too much time—to absorb water from the waste as a result. The stool gets firm, dry, and challenging to push out.

What signs or symptoms indicate constipation?

Constipation signs and symptoms include:

-You urinate fewer than three times each week.

-Your stools are lumpy, dry, and firm.

-It hurts or is difficult for you to pass stools.

-You experience cramps or a stomachache.

-You get nausea and bloating.

-After a bowel movement, you feel as though you haven't entirely emptied your system.

Complications due to constipation:

If you don't have soft, frequent bowel movements, a few issues may arise. Some difficulties include:

-veins in your rectum that are swollen and irritated (a condition called hemorrhoids).

-your anus is torn open by the hard stool trying to get through (called anal fissures).

-an infection in pouches that can occasionally form off the colon wall as a result of trapped and contaminated stools (a condition called diverticulitis)

-excessive amounts of waste or poop in the rectum and anus (a condition called fecal impaction).

-trying to move your bowels can harm your pelvic floor muscles. Your bladder can be controlled by these muscles. Urine leakage from the bladder may result from excessive strain over an extended period of time (a condition known as stress).

Home remedies for constipation

-Up your water intake.

-Increase your intake of fiber, particularly soluble, non-fermentable fiber.

-Up your exercise game.

-Drink caffeinated coffee.

-Consume probiotic-rich foods or dietary supplements.
