HOW DO GIANT SHIPS SINK IN THE SEA?
When we see big ships floating in the sea, it seems that these ships are riding on their chest to take iron from the sea. But the reality is that these ships, which are intimidating by their size, sometimes turn over by the force of the sea and sometimes sink by their weight.
Huge cargo ships carry a wide variety of goods from one place to another. Many types of metals, ores, and mineral sands are also carried in them. But the cargo loaded on these ships becomes the reason for their sinking.
PROCESS OF LIQUEFACTION
So far, countless ships have sunk into the sea. According to an estimate, about 10 large cargo ships end up in the sea every year. And the employees on these ships are killed forever.
The ores of metals that are loaded in cargo ships often start melting due to chemical reactions. This process is called liquefaction.
In 2015, the 56-kiloton cargo ship Jupiter sank near southwest Vietnam. Of the 19 employees on board, only one could be saved. After this accident, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) had issued a warning about the aluminum ore bauxite being loaded on cargo.
ERROR IN LOADING
There is a need to take special precautions while loading goods on cargo ships. But it is ignored. Due to careless loading, there is a rapid buoyancy in the water under the ship, due to which the ore starts to move.
This affects the balance of the ship. Due to the increase in water pressure, the cargo sometimes gets stored in one part of the ship.
The ship remains inclined at the same angle for a long time. Not only this, sometimes the ship leans so much in the water that seawater starts coming in it and plays its role in sinking the ship.
The International Maritime Organization has set standards to prevent liquefaction. According to which it has been decided that how much moisture content can be carried. But still, the accidents are not stopping.
HOW TO PUT LUGGAGE ON THE SHIP?
If there is a slight change in how the cargo is loaded on the ship, then major accidents can be prevented. Apart from this, before loading the goods, it is necessary to make sure which ores are to be loaded and not.
Along with this, it should also be seen that chemical changes will happen in which ore when there is water pressure. Somewhere these chemical reactions will not become the reason for the shipwreck.
Also, care has to be taken that the goods are loaded on the ship in the right way. So that the pressure on any one part of the ship does not become too much and the ship remains unbalanced.
New technology can play an important role in this. If there are sensors for water pressure in ships, then it can be of great help.
Apart from this, all the ores that are loaded should be monitored. The ores that start melting in the turmoil of the sea should be immediately removed from the ship.
Cargo workers also need to be alert in this. For example, if water is coming into the ship, then remove it immediately.
Depending on the weather conditions, the course of the ship should be changed. If such small things are taken care of, then major accidents can be avoided.
