"I can't discover why I'm on this planet."
"What's my point here? I know there's something I have to do, but I don't know how to find out what it is."
"I don't seem passionate about anything."
I have heard these complaints many times from my customers.
Discovering our passion and purpose is vital to our joy and well-being. The problem is that many people have lost touch with any feelings about their passion and purpose and have no idea how to access this information.
The blueprint for this knowledge lies in our core Self, our core, our true Self, which is usually embedded in our early years. If our True Self has not been seen and acknowledged by our parents, teachers, or other caregivers, it is likely that it has gone underground. The self that many know as "me" is often our injured self, our ego, the self we created to make love and avoid pain. Our wounded self has all our fears and false beliefs and has no access to what is right for us.
So how do we discover our passion and purpose if the blueprint of this knowledge is long buried? The good news is that it won't disappear while buried. Anyone can reclaim this knowledge if you are willing to do the inner work to heal your wounded self.
As I followed the Inner Connecting process I taught (see our FREE course at www.innerbonding.com), I have worked with thousands of clients who gradually healed their fears and mistakes, limiting their beliefs to where their true Self has come. look out. This is the vital, living aspect of ourselves, the aspect of us that wants to joyfully express ourselves in the world. As you allow this aspect to emerge, you will gradually discover what truly brings you joy.
In our society, we tend to ignore our special talents and choose careers according to what will give us a sense of security. However, things that make us feel safe often do not satisfy us spiritually. For example, Roger worked as a lawyer for many years, but he didn't like it at all. He earned a lot of money, but when he consulted me he suffered from anxiety and depression. He became a lawyer because his father was a lawyer and wanted Roger to follow in his footsteps. Roger had accepted what his father wanted for him because he didn't know what else he wanted and was now miserable in his middle years. He was eager to discover his passion.
A few months after starting to practice Inner Bonding, Roger remembered that he really wanted to be a teacher. He had never seriously considered teaching as he felt he could not earn enough money, but was now willing to earn much less money because he was so unhappy with his current job. Roger went back to school and earned a teaching certificate and is now a high school social studies teacher. The last time I spoke to him, he sparkled! He loved working with adolescents and felt he made a real contribution to their lives. For the first time in his life, he felt alive and passionate. His wife has decided to close some of the financial slack by doing something she's always wanted to do: designing children's clothes. He started his own mail order business and is very happy with it. Their marriage and family life are flourishing because they are both happy and fulfilled on the inside.
Ricki came to see me because he was very unhappy working as a controller for a large import business. Still, he had no idea what else he wanted to do. It took about a year of Inner Connecting practice for her True Self to tell her she wanted to be a nutritionist. Ricki didn't want to hear about his true Self because he didn't want to go back to school. He was so unhappy in the end that he decided to listen. Now she's back at school, enjoying discovering her passion.
While it's not always possible to turn your job into something you love right away, if you follow your passion it will usually get you there. And even when you need to make money in ways that don't express your soul, you can seek volunteer opportunities and hobbies to express who you are. Often these can lead to the work you will eventually do.
Alfredo worked as a manager in a large supermarket. With his little savings, he decided to pursue a hobby that has always fascinated him - restoring old cars. He used all his extra money to buy his first old car and spent many enjoyable hours restoring it. He was so good at it that he managed to sell his restored cars for a lot of money. He eventually managed to quit his market job and pursue his passion full time. He eventually started a project in a prison that taught inmates to repair cars. Alfredo now loves what he does and takes great pleasure in helping others.
Your soul has a deep desire for you to express yourself in ways that bring you joy. It's your job to discover and uncover what that is.
