Cell phones, mobile computers, and other technological gadgets are becoming more and more ubiquitous in today's world, which is not only hectic but also very impersonal. The goal is to make money and then use that money to make more money. What's the point? Inconsistent rewards. Having more money would make life so much better, we've told ourselves time and time again. Nevertheless, when we receive a substantial raise, we later realize that it was not enough?
Do You Know What to Do?
The monk says this and the monk says that, by Robin Sharma, is one of many books I've read on life. All of them seem to tell me that money is not important. Money is important. Would it be possible to live without cash? Certainly not.
In order to find my true path in life, I asked for advice from my local Rabbi.
I was led to the window by the rabbi as he nodded. I was looking at something in the window,” he said to me.
At the right corner, a blind man is begging for alms. I saw people going to and fro and responded, "I can see people walking to and fro."
I was led to a large mirror by the Rabbi who nodded. The Rabbi asked, “I want you to look at this mirror and tell me what you see?””””
I man replied, "I am seeing myself.".
His smile was contagious. You could no longer see anyone else. Although both mirror and window are made from the same raw material, glass, one has been sprayed with silver to make the reflection that is all you can see when you look at it.
My Rabbi placed an arm around my shoulders. She said, "Compare yourselves to those two pieces of glass.". When the silver layer was removed, you could see the other people and feel compassion for them. If your silver covering is intact, you only see yourself."
As I stared at the Rabbi, I felt sick to my stomach. I was confused.
Further comments were made by the Rabbi. He patted me on the back and sent me on my way. "You will become someone only when you overcome the fear of no longer seeing and loving others." He said as he lifted the silver covering from my eyes.
After thinking about what he said, it seems that he had a point. Definitely. We cannot live a moneyless existence; that is useless and will only result in us and our families experiencing heartbreak in the future.
Let's follow the Rabbi's advice instead. A silver covering prevents us from seeing anything outside of ourselves. You can now see and feel everyone if you remove that covering.
Both kinds of mirrors can and should be viewed in life, but a mirror only reflects oneself, whereas a window allows true compassion, health, and wealth to shine through. In other words, the best way to gain wealth is to pursue it, but do not let it discourage you from life, people, children the poor, and the needy. You must find your own ways for becoming rich.
