There was a dentist in America named William James Morrison. He was always busy making unique and innovative things. In 1897 he made a machine with a confectioner named John C. Wharton, and that machine was not typical. That machine was able to make cotton candy by spinning the hot sugar.
This was a valuable and unique invention of that time. After making it 7 years later in 1904, he placed his dream in front of the world in Saint Louis World Fair. This machine became so famous gradually amongst people.
Fairy Floss is the name that was given to cotton candy at that time. However the cotton candy made by that machine was not very good in taste and the candy was white in colour.
Even then the texture of this candy attracted people towards itself and above 68000 machines was sold till the end of the fair. In 1921, another dentist named Joseph Loskox filed a claim to make one more machine.
The credit goes to Loskox for the name of this candy. Due to him the candy got a new name after fairy Floss which is cotton candy. The main reason behind that the cotton is prepared from the cotton balls of the cotton plant. While making this small candy amount of sugar spins in the machine, it takes the shape of cotton.
Many changes took place in the machine with time. Another cotton candy machine came in 1970, which was self-control or self usable. This new machine was able to make cotton candy by itself.
The colour of cotton candy remained pink in many places and blue in other sites, and the taste of the candy was only sweet. But now it can be seen in many colors, even purple also. Today you can taste this candy from custard mango to ginger flavor.
You will be surprised by knowing that that level of popularity of cotton candy in America that they celebrate National Cotton Candy Day every year.
