ISLAMABAD: According to the police, a suicide bombing occurred on Friday in the I-10/4 sector of Islamabad, killing one policeman and injuring at least six others, including two civilians and four police officers.
After the explosion, several police officers were at the scene, and the fiery wreckage of a vehicle was captured on television. The first such attack in years occurred shortly after the Islamabad police issued a "red alert" in the city.
According to AFP and Reuters, the banned T-E H R-E K-I-T-A L-I B-A N Pakistan (TTP), which called off a stop-start ceasefire with the government in November, claimed responsibility for the blast in a statement.
When he detonated a device inside the vehicle, a male driver and a female passenger, according to the police, were in the vehicle.
Dawn has learned that later information suggested that the other person was also a man, making it unclear to the police whether he was the suicide attacker's accomplice or his hostage.
A case has been enrolled at the Counterterrorism Division (CTD) Police headquarters against the individual who exploded the dangerous under Segment 7 of the Counter Illegal intimidation Act, areas 4 and 5 of the Explosives Act, alongside segments 302, 324, 427 and 109 of the Pakistan Correctional Code.
Dawn was informed by officials from the police that footage showed that only one person was driving the vehicle. However, the suicide assailant's remains and two other people's body parts were discovered on the spot.
According to officials, there was confusion regarding the status of the other man driving the vehicle—whether he was a driver who picked up a passenger on a routine basis, a hostage, or an accomplice of the terrorist
However, they claimed that, in contrast to the details that were made public immediately following the incident, there was no sign of a woman in the vehicle or working with the terrorists. In addition, the autopsy report confirmed that no women were among the deceased.
According to the officials, there were some general alerts regarding terrorism, but none of them were specific.
The vehicle, a Mehran yellow taxi, was enrolled in Lahore for the sake of a man who hails from C H-A K W-A L, they said, adding that the vehicle was utilized with the first enlistment plate, thus far no report of the vehicle's missing or taken was found.
Typically, taken vehicles or ones with counterfeit an enlistment plate were utilized in wrongdoing and psychological warfare occurrences, they said, adding that under such conditions, there was plausible that the other individual was a prisoner of the fear based oppressor, who recruited the taxi until arriving at his objective, or involved the taxi as a typical traveler.
The taxi entered from the capital from P-I R W A-H D-I and arrived at S-A B Z-I M-A N D-I and later moved to Islamabad's I-10/4 area through help street. A police watching group flagged the taxi to stop on doubt and the driver landed from it and his inquiry was led.
The officers added that the circumstances and evidence collected from the scene suggested that either he or the man sitting in the car detonated the suicide jacket kept at the rear seat of the taxi. When the police team asked him for documents, including the CNIC, he returned to the taxi, and it suddenly exploded when he reached the rear door
Head Constable Syed Adeel Hussain, 46, was killed in the explosion. The officials added that the interior minister and a senior police officer claimed that a woman terrorist was in the car, but that no evidence or clues regarding his presence were found.
He stated, "The car entered Islamabad from Rawalpindi... it was packed with explosives and headed for a high-value target in the capital". "If it had reached its target, it would have caused significant losses"
