How does a computer work?

A computer is an electronic device that gathers data, stores it, processes it by user commands, and returns the final product.

Devices Before computers were invented, people counted with sticks, stones, and bones. As technology advanced and human intelligence improved over time, more computers were made. Let's take a look at some of the first computers used by humans.

Abacus The Chinese created the abacus approximately 4000 years ago. Beads are strung on metal rods that are attached to a wooden rack. To complete arithmetic calculations, the abacus operator moves the beads by predetermined guidelines.

Napier's Bone John Napier created Napier's Bones, a device for calculating that was operated by hand. This instrument was multiplied and divided using nine distinct ivory strips (bones) marked with numerals. Additionally, it was the first machine to utilize the decimal point system for calculations.

Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, and philosopher invented Pascaline in 1642. It is believed to be the first calculator that was both mechanical and automated. Inside were gears and wheels in a wooden box.

Stepped Reckoner, also known as the Leibniz wheel, was created in 1673 by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, a German mathematician, and philosopher. Leibniz improved on Pascal's idea to create this apparatus. Due to its use of fluted drums rather than gears, this digital mechanical calculator was referred to as the stepped reckoner.

The Difference Engine was developed by Charles Babbage at the beginning of the 1820s. It was a mechanical computer with basic computation capabilities. It was a steam-powered calculator used to solve logarithmic tables and other numerical tables.

In 1830, Charles Babbage developed the Analytical Engine, a second calculating device. It was a mechanical computer that used punch cards as input. It was able to store data in an indefinite memory and solve any mathematical problem.

The tabulating machine was developed in 1890 by American statistician Herman Hollerith. The mechanical tabulator known as Tabulating Machine was based on punch cards. It could record or sort data or information as well as compute statistics. In 1924, Hollerith's company, which would later become International Business Machines (IBM), began producing these machines.

In 1930, Vannevar Bush introduced the Differential Analyzer, which was the first electrical computer. Vacuum tubes are the components of this machine, and they switch electrical impulses to perform calculations. It could complete 25 calculations in just a few minutes.

In 1937, Mark I. Howard Aiken had the idea of building a machine that could do huge calculations or calculations with a lot of numbers.IBM and Harvard worked together to build the Mark I computer in 1944.
