Climate change in the last few years, we have seen a lot of research on climate change from a scientific perspective. It's an issue that needs to be addressed by science and policy and is one that calls for a comprehensive response given its effects on human well-being but what does this mean it means that governments and international organizations are responsible for tackling global warming and should also take responsibility for mitigating its impacts and adapting our societies so that they can survive and prosper in a changing ecosystem however some people try to argue otherwise that global warming doesn't pose such an immediate threat to humanity and that the future we see today isn't a result of it at all to put it simply global warming does not exist this position is not without criticism and counter-arguments for example scientists argue that greenhouse gases are quite useful for stabilizing earths atmospheric temperature and preventing the worst-case scenarios from happening and therefore do not account for the problem of global heating they point out however that even if greenhouse gases are important their contribution in terms of carbon dioxide removal through ocean sinks land-migration or sequestration and air circulation may be negligible, so it's true that when combined with other changes the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere can help sustain the planet there's no denying that, but the main point here is that these gases are not causing anything remotely like an increase in temperatures the same goes for co2 emissions they play crucial roles in regulating the temperature in a way that other forms of pollution like methane emissions can't on top of all these greenhouses work similarly to any other system of natural resources which must be protected to make sure we keep the balance around our ecosystems right while simultaneously allowing for further production consumption and growth opportunities a virtuous cycle that keeps us safe and thriving in a sustainable world as mentioned earlier we cannot let climate change become unchecked and lead to disastrous consequences for us but how do we address it one approach is the Green New Deal while we understand that the impact of climate change will only exacerbate other pressing issues like food security water scarcity and climate disasters it will also give rise to new economic opportunities and jobs and enable the development of new technologies for fighting against climate change we can then build a much more prosperous equitable and resilient society however such a transition isn't without challenges, and we need clear policies to guide and provide a basis for the implementation of a Green New Deal governments must act decisively and quickly to mitigate and adapt that means mobilizing finance to ensure universal access to clean energy implementing ambitious investment plans to create thousands of green jobs and decarbonizing every sector of industry achieving such goals would require substantial financial support and political support to accelerate action especially among developing countries and small island states what are the solutions first addressing climate change is primarily about making drastic cuts in industrial emissions particularly to reduce dependence on fossil fuels therefore as part of the efforts to manage climate change governments should target the decarbonization of sectors like agriculture electricity generation building construction transport shipping manufacturing mining transport and construction second the creation of employment is key to making economies more productive and less vulnerable economic recovery must include increased job creation to promote resilience across the economy third increasing levels of resilience require social protection policies that are targeted to meet specific needs these are programs that support low-income families provide social services and support older workers in industries that aren't yet adopting advanced technologies and services such measures will ensure that amid the challenges and challenges posed by climate change the most disadvantaged households can maintain their livelihoods as opposed to relying on public assistance to cushion the crisis fourth creating more green jobs for people who have traditionally been excluded from high-paying careers will boost sustainability and the overall prosperity of citizens in developed nations for many decades through colonialism imperialism slavery and colonialism again the colonial powers failed to invest sufficient resources into creating jobs and wealth for black and indigenous people today almost 15 years after independence African countries still lack adequate infrastructure and skills for creating local jobs therefore governments need to implement appropriate policies and mechanisms to achieve sustained jobs that fit within existing labor markets lastly governments need to introduce incentives that will drive companies to adopt greener practices to grow economically and curb climate change by doing so governments can stimulate companies to cut their emissions and attract investments to generate long-term value for those invested in making the switch toward a cleaner future regarding adaptation these measures will require significant investment in adaptation policies to protect communities and populations more effectively against natural hazards extreme weather and disease outbreaks, and finally it's important to note that although we are committed to protecting a healthy biosphere and living as close to nature as possible our current lifestyles do not allow us to fully enjoy that many of us still rely heavily on fossil fuels eat meat and throw away plastics and other toxic waste all of these activities contribute significantly to destroying the planetary home and biodiversity an ecological footprint of 84 tonnes year compared to 55 tonnes year for the average person according to one study additionally our dependency has led us further down the path of destruction toward our environment and biodiversity exacerbating existing inequality because a mere 2 of the population owns the majority of private lands and 50 of entire cities ultimately with the growing pressure brought by environmental degradation that could threaten billions of species survival governments should make decisions that foster robust economic growth and well-being and eliminate poverty and inequity for everyone everywhere without this the damage caused to earth and the lives of billions of humans must be mitigated however it seems that the solution especially in light of increasingly frequent reports that suggest climate change is already wreaking havoc on everyday life is very hard to find and difficult to believe no matter the data and facts the media presents the message continues to be loud and clear we need to act now to prevent climate change only then will the situation change for the better lets unite and act urgently join hands and stand together to tackle this terrible challenge no more waste the time to act and Green New Deal pictwittercomd1hvl1qgvi our world in data our world data January, 25 2022
