Reading a book that deals with the topic of reinvention can make transforming your life a little easier.
Change can be a positive thing, and it is helpful to learn from others who have followed a similar path.
Did you know…
Bill Gates reads about 50 books a year, which is 1 a week.
Mark Cuban reads more than 3 hours every day.
Elon Musk is an avid reader and when asked how he learned to build rockets, he said: I read books.
Mark Zuckerberg read a book every two weeks throughout 2015.
Each month, Oprah Winfrey selects one of her favorite books for Book Club members to read and discuss.
What is a life-changing book?
A book that changes your life, challenges your current way of thinking, or offers a profound insight that will leave you thinking for days. Life-changing books shake you to the core, capture you, and influence your behavior for years to come.
Change the world by changing yourself,
You probably feel stressed about changing your worldview. But change is about evolution – becoming your best self. When you change yourself, you have an impact on others and, in turn, on the world. Think about it from this perspective. I have a Facebook group and I try to live my mission there. But one thing I realized is that before the members get to the stage of reading the solutions, it made sense that I set up reading prompts to engage in leadership reading.
This way, they know how to find important information in a nonfiction book and don't get overwhelmed by information that isn't important to their understanding of the book. For the coming year, what is one small change you can make within yourself that will have a big impact on you personally and professionally. For me, it's acting faster.
There are times when I spend too much time on the data collection process. Sometimes this is necessary when an action can have a profound impact on your life. But there are times when the data collection process is overkill. One thing I've become more focused on is implementing what I've learned. I'm good at implementing ideas, but I often want to do it after the data collection process. There are times when it is unnecessary to wait for more information before acting.
Reading changes the way you see the world
Reading allows you to learn new things and opens up the possibility of letting those new things affect your life and change the way you see your surroundings. People are sometimes confused and argue that you can't pretend to be a different person after reading one book. I doubt that's what I mean. It's more about realizing things you didn't know and trying to apply them to your life to be and do things better. For example, I read Silence by Susan Cain. The book helped me learn more about myself and introverted people. Reading her has helped me to be more empathetic in the long run and to be a better version of myself.
This growing process also helps to learn about specific areas where you would like to expand. Want to learn more about the world economy, investing, startups, fitness, how to grow as a person (self-help), history, math, ethics, or any other topic? Choose the best books about it and read them! Do yourself a favor and don't limit yourself to your area of expertise
I made my environment more readable,
My first priority was to make it easier to read in general. I am like electricity; I want to take the path of least resistance. If there are obstacles in my way, I just give up and do what is easier and just as satisfying at the moment. In my case, that usually means turning on the TV, playing with my phone, playing a video game, or eating until I fall asleep.
To remedy this, I drew on a quote I once heard about software piracy. It goes something like, "To fight piracy, you need to make it easier to buy your content than to download it illegally." Basically, I realized I wasn't trying to read because I made it harder for myself to access. My reading light was in the wrong position so, I couldn't comfortably reach the light switch from the bed. I would have to get out of bed to turn it on or off. My bed was also too high and leaned against the windowsill so, I couldn't prop myself up if I didn't want to hold a book over my head. And worst of all, I had a giant TV in my room.
Reading is joyful, beautiful and disconnects you from social networks,
have you ever gotten chills after reading one sentence? Have you ever felt like you couldn't stop reading a book? Or were you compelled to re-read the page because of how incredible what you just went through was? These situations often occur when you are reading. However, people tend to believe that reading is boring and see it as something difficult. It may be true that it takes a bit of effort to get started, but I'd say it all comes down to choosing the right book - or the right type of books. If you do this, you will be in a position to discover what reading can give you and what it opens up.
As we'll see in a moment, reading allows you to learn, create new ideas, understand the world, and write better, among a thousand other things. However, sometimes people, myself included, forget how beautiful it is to be immersed in a book. That desire to return home and read more about it. We have focused too much on the usefulness of reading and not on what it provides and how it can improve your mood and enjoy your time. In a world where super-powered algorithms fight to keep us in front of the screen, reading paper books can be a fantastic tool we can use to stop looking at our phones or TV.
I talk about books more with others
The more I talk about something, the more upset I get about it. So I made books a priority topic of conversation instead of movies, TV shows, or games. When I talk to my friends, what I read comes first. It makes me more excited about the activity overall and often brings me great reading recommendations from others. And this in turn feeds into the cycle of "read the book, talk about the book, get excited about the book, read more books, yay book".
Talking about what I read also adds a layer of public accountability, and I start to set some expectations in my mind. I think things like "if I don't finish it, they'll think I've quit" or "I need to finish it now in case they ask me how it went". This goes double for books that have been recommended to me or books that I read at the same time as a friend. If I don't actually read it, I can't enjoy discussing it - which is my favorite part.
Reading a book makes the reader empathetic,
A great book can awaken your empathy. It helps you connect with the person, the main character telling their story, and trust the reader to understand their situation even if you don't agree with it. It helps you relate to a person and put yourself in their shoes while trying to understand them and see the world from their perspective.
This sense of empathy helps the reader increase their level of tolerance and helps them to accept diversity in people's opinions, so even if there is a sense of disagreement, you are able to understand the other person's emotions.
You are discovering yourself,
Picture it: you're reading a book, nodding along the way while thinking, yes, this is how it is. Well, you just showed up. The words written on the page are probably foreign, but they speak to your mind in a way that makes you feel like you might have lived a stranger's life, and the more you read, the more you educate your mind about who you really are.
When you cry, smile, or wince while reading a book, you may feel like you've been looking for that moment all your life, but never knew it. The feeling of a stranger has depicted your whole world, your past may be described or your beliefs or the smallest hope you carry within you; it helped you discover yourself. It helps you connect with the best side of yourself that you never knew you had.
Relieves stress
A critically composed book captures the reader's attention, time ceases to exist, and your mind is completely engaged with what is in front of you. It forces you to stop rushing and all the worries, anxieties, fears and ambitions that are the main causes of stress are lost in imagination.
Conclusion
A great book can help in countless ways. Not only will it allow you to change your outlook on life; it helps you enjoy the moments you spend with him. In return, it will make you curious and help you explore the unexplored. In other words, it makes you adventurous and opens your mind to other views. It gives you the opportunity to get to know yourself better and helps you seek knowledge and understanding of things you never understood before in the most exciting way.
