This is what I heard in a Nike commercial:
Get up and shine.
By the time your hand reaches the alarm clock at six in the morning, voices in your thoughts are already urging you to stay in bed because it is too early, dark, and chilly.
Your aching muscles refuse to move, acting as though they are unaware of the commands from your brain.
You didn't ask their opinion, therefore a horde of voices expressing their unanimity that you should press the snooze button and return to your dreamland.
You've opted to pay attention to a rebellious voice.
There is a voice telling you there was a reason you initially set the alarm. We have work to do, so sit up, put your feet on the floor, and keep looking forward.
Greetings from The Grind!
What else is a day except for a succession of clashes between the proper and convenient course of action?
Before you, 10,000 streams spread out like a river delta, each one promising the straightest way.
However, you are moving downstream.
Day 1 begins when you make that decision when you choose to disregard what is secure, comfortable, and what others could refer to as "common sense."
The going just gets worse from there.
Just be certain that this is what you desire.
All you have to do is pick up your feet because the simple solution will always be available, ready to sweep you away.
However, you don't think you will.
The choice to take another step follows each step made.
You've already departed.
But now is not the time to reflect on your progress.
You're engaged in combat with an elusive foe.
Oh, but aren't you aware of his heels clicking?
Sensing his breath on your neck
Do you recognize that?
Who are you?
Your anxieties, uncertainties, and insecurities are arranged like a firing squad, ready to execute you from the sky.
But don't give up hope.
They are not indestructible, but they are not easily defeated either.
Consider that this is The Grind.
It's a fight for survival between you and your body, mind, and the devil on your shoulder who keeps reminding you that you're in a game and that your opponents are stronger than you.
With the sound of your heartbeat, silence the voice of doubt.
With the fire that is beneath you, extinguish your self-doubt.
Keep in mind why you are fighting.
And keep in mind that momentum can be a harsh mistress.
Even the smallest error can cause her to change course.
She is constantly looking for a gaping hole in your defenses.
That one small detail you neglected to plan for
So long as the devil withholds the information, the question,"Is that all you got?" "Are you sure?" and others persist.
And when "yes" is the response. It's time to confront your enemy, the enemy within, after doing everything you can to get yourself ready for combat.
Only now you have to engage in that battle openly and on an adversary's turf.
In a field of lions, you are one of them.
They are all pursuing the same elusive prey in a state of famine that makes victory the only thing that will keep them alive.
So, trust the voice that tells you that you "CAN" run a bit faster, "CAN" throw a little harder, "CAN" dive a little deeper and that the rules of physics are only guidelines for you.
