How blood works, health of the blood

             Health Of The Blood

I am looking forward to the day I can use my blood again, and I’d like to share some of my experiences with you all. My mother has had multiple surgeries and two long-term illnesses in which she found that her blood wasn’t functioning well. After a week or so later and still no good news from both doctors and nurses, my husband decided it was time for him to take matters into his own hands and have me tested for anemia. A few days later, I received the results of my blood work and discovered where the issue lay. It turns out I don’t carry any diseases that need to be dealt with by medication. Now I can begin treatment for one or the other, but the biggest test will be when I start using my blood again!

So here I go. We have been testing me regularly for the past couple of weeks on various things ranging from heart health to cholesterol levels. We checked my blood levels and discovered that they were within the normal range except for my red blood cell count (RBC). This value stood at 9.7 while my RBC is 8.4, meaning that there is a slight deficit of 4%. Most of this is due to the fact that my symptoms are related to my pregnancy; otherwise, I would have my red cells as low as 7.6 in number. These numbers are vital for our blood oxygenation, so much so that I was told my red cells are not needed because most of them are actually used during childbirth or during periods of extreme stress on our bodies. So what does this mean? Basically, I will be able to feel better if I can get more oxygen into my body. You might think that sounds strange, and maybe someone will tell you about how they can see a difference after taking their medications. That is not true. When you have your meds, you don’t notice that much difference unless you are a doctor or nurse. But when you are not using them, your senses begin to tell you that something is wrong. Most patients can only notice anything when they start taking, and then begin noticing the change when they start using their meds. In addition to that, there is a possible reason for such changes as well, such as sleep deprivation that may cause the body to produce less or more carbon dioxide throughout the day.

I couldn’t believe it! The little red light on the paper at hand gave me a sense of relief, and then the next morning I felt sick. Before bed this afternoon, I went for blood tests, and the results were a lot worse than I could even begin to get upset at myself for having to deal with this situation. Even though I have never had anemia, especially the older forms like lactate dehydrogenase or leukocyte approbation, I have always known something was different about me if I had anemia, and even though I didn’t want to admit it, those early mornings and evenings really made me realize I actually felt terrible. My mom was very supportive of my decision and even said, "I believe in you." In the end, my husband was able to convince me to give up my blood tests for now and focus on getting the nutrients in my diet in order to build stronger muscles. I cannot wait to show everyone exactly why I have one of the best-looking women in the world! And after that, I have to say, it is going to take me a while to learn to trust my own judgement. While being able to walk around without feeling weak will definitely help, I hope to be able to continue to grow strong and love even though I won’t be able to show people just yet.

That is why today I chose to treat myself as I am now: strong and beautiful.
